i need to admit something. the more i think about how many of our problems are downstream of a very small number of ppl and organizations hoarding all the wealth and power, the less interested i am in discussions of american democracy that prefer to focus on anything else.

When I got the contract to write a history of concentration camps in 2014, I hoped to keep the US from ending up here. That didn't work out! But now it's critical to understand how much is already in process and the enormity of what's coming. The sooner we act to stop it, the more people we'll save.

We are all responsible for what happens in our communities.
Highlighting the speaker who stood in front of the Surprise mayor and told him to consider what the Mayor of Ohrdruf must’ve thought before he died by suicide: “He might have thought ‘how is this my fault I had no jurisdiction over this’ maybe he said ‘this site was not subject to local zoning.’”

This isn’t some anonymous tip. This is sworn testimony, under penalty of perjury, from someone who said Trump threatened to kill her if she exposed Epstein’s sexual abuse.

I have none of those qualifications and my hourly rate is orders of magnitude higher than that 😂
$40 an hour for what would probably be one of the sixty most accomplished fiction writers in America
X is hiring a creative writing specialist at $40 an hour to make Grok better at writing and a true LOL at the qualifications

Illinoisans, get on the horn to Durbin and Duckworth this morning and give them heck about what needs to be the minimum requests Senate Democrats make. Nobody ever answers the phone when I call Durbin's office, so you'll likely just be leaving messages. You only get a minute, make it count.

I'm outside the Jesse Brown VA in Chicago for the second second time this week, where once again hundreds of people have gathered for a vigil for Alex Pretti, who was executed by federal agents in Minneapolis.

Heads up
I know all eyes are on Minneapolis, but there's a fast-approaching nightmare in Springfield, Ohio.

Trump is revoking protected status for tens of thousands of Haitians living there on Feb. 3.

Reportedly, on Feb. 4, 1000 ICE agents are arriving to remove this population. Ethnic cleansing.

I am introducing the Cut It Out And This Time I Really Mean It bill. It provides an additional $57 billion to the murder goons but they will agree to wear business casual Monday through Thursday and if they do any murders they have to put a dollar in this jar.

It wasn’t enough for Stephen Miller that these American citizens were murdered by ICE and CBP, he had to slander them with lies after their deaths.

Miller is a deranged, bloodthirsty bigot, and his policies put lives at risk every day he remains in power.

Fire Stephen Miller.

A lot more people should know about the bravery Marimar Martinez displayed in the midst of Chicago’s occupation and the murder of two observers in MSP. They tried to kill her, shooting her 5 times, and it’s a miracle she’s alive to push for transparency like this after being persecuted by the DOJ.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.
