"Few operas wait centuries for an audience, but after 318 years, Antonia Bembo’s Ercole amante, is about to get its first staging, thanks to San Francisco’s Ars Minerva." – Ist toll, aber nicht richtig, weil diese Oper bereits 2023 in Stuttgart UA hatte. Ich war dabei 😎

I literally tore a hole in the paper while scratching his name out. Decided to dedicate the symphony to "The memory of a great man".
My favorite two anecdotes about Napoleon Bonaparte:
a) Ludwig van Beethoven had initially composed his third symphony in honor of Napoleon. Upon hearing the news that Bonaparte had crowned himself emperor, he immediately crossed out the dedication. (1/2)
'Woke' Napoleon never becomes dictator, let alone emperor, and probably remakes Europe far more thoroughly as a result.

On top of everything else, he completely shat on what could've been an *amazing*, legendary legacy continuing his earlier career.

All he had to do was preserve the Republic.

Around this time in 1808, as I was preparing for my first personal benefit concert in 5 years, the kernel of an idea for a choral fantasy for piano and orchestra (and a choir, obviously) started bugging me.

The characters of the book are the billion species of life on earth (not just animals!) and the scientists who, over 2 millennia, have thought how we might discover how the many species of life are related. The story lines are as many and as diverse as the billion branches of the tree of life.

The third thing listed is what's most important.
Beethoven was baptized in this church over 250 years ago. His parents also married in this church and starting at age 12 Beethoven played organ here.

NEW: Dems easily flipped the sheriff's office in Pennsylvania's Bucks County, a big swing county in the Philly suburbs.

So? The incumbent GOP sheriff had contracted with ICE. His Dem challenger promised to end the contract.

Now he wants other swing-state Dems to look at his victory as a lesson:

A populous, swing county replaced its GOP sheriff on Tuesday after months of controversy over his joining ICE’s 287(g) program. The Democratic winner promises he’ll end the contract.

Black American soldiers literally dug these WWII graves. Traumatic. To acknowledge that fact at a cemetery they helped construct is something the Heritage Foundation cannot accept. As Veterans Day approaches, never forget that this country both compels and disrespects Black military service. Always.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

Mamdani is going to implement Charpentier law and, while he is mayor, the Metropolitan Opera will be required to open every season with a historically-informed production of "Les Arts Florrisants" (1685)
Mamdani is gonna implement shakshuka law. Everyone gets distributed a delicious pan of simmering tomatoes, onions, garlic, spices, and gently poached eggs, which they get as state-sponsored breakfast.
