I think we should make telling verifiable lies about straightforward matters of fact to a large audience of people illegal, regardless of the subject or domain. Everyone has Google in their pocket there is no reason for society to tolerate "they're giving trans kids litterboxes in schools".
probably my most authoritarian opinion is that there should be a large scale crackdown on so-called "alternative medicine"

On the one hand I think computers are tools and you need to be able to play with them as whatever kind of toys you want without corporate approval. On the other hand the evidence shows that if you’re not hyper aware you’re roleplaying with a fake toy you are driven insane almost instantly
If these chatbots are going to continue to exist, which evidently they are, I feel like a near-necessary safety feature these companies need to implement is what Claude does, where if you're being rude to it, hitting on it, or saying bonkers out of pocket shit it will just tell you to fuck off

I understand the sentiment behind it but too many of y’all seemed way too eager to make clanker jokes in a way that seemed less about being anti AI and more about wanting to make jokes where the punchline is “this sounds like real slurs but about a fake thing” or “haha, it’s like old timey racism”

Academics literally cannot make Gen AI go away. As in it is not possible to make it happen on a political, legal, and technical level. We do not and will not command the massive violence necessary to make chatGPT or Claude disappear. Responsible pedagogy grapples with the fact!
No one says to legit business owners, "hey I see there's an underground market selling toxic knock-offs of your product: how will you incorporate the toxic product AND protect your customers against its harms?" But apparently it's fine to make this suggestion to educators with respect to AI.
