We're on YEAR 4 of this saga and this stuff has kept coming up every single year and these people seem terribly confused for why something that they know from all their sophistry isn't real hasn't blown over like everything else.
It's actually kind of striking how these arguments are stupid and don't matter because they don't have any predictive power, and if the prediction is "These systems can't do knowledge work", then those predictions are simply wrong.
February 11, 2026 at 6:54 PM
This is more from a place of pity than anything. It doesn't matter how many opinion columnists believe this. It doesn't matter how many millions of readers agree. It's not a democratic vote on what's actually happening - What's really happening has nothing to do with opinion.
February 11, 2026 at 6:50 PM
You can't run on these fumes forever. You may want to predict that the graph is going to stop moving, the line will stop going up. But you have to look at the line one day.
February 11, 2026 at 6:49 PM
And that leads to all sorts of silly conclusions like "Oh, it'll go away tomorrow, oh, it's because world leaders and experts they're just idiots, unlike me, The Atlantic reader, who knows that these systems aren't actually thinking and thus have no effect in the real world."
February 11, 2026 at 6:49 PM
Obviously, a system that can do knowledge work has to think! And the system can't think! That means they can't do knowledge work, that means I don't have to think about this. Wait, what's going on? Why are people being fired? Why are governments starting wars over this?
February 11, 2026 at 6:49 PM
Arguing about whether these are just "predictive algorithms" and "not thinking" on some fundamental metaphysical level (Which the writer can't even grasp anyway) is pure wordcel nonsense and doesn't help anyone understand what's happening or what's going to happen.
February 11, 2026 at 6:49 PM
This is what makes these arguments irresponsible. They give the impression that they're saying something, even if it's between the lines: i.e. "These systems don't think!", you'd get readers concluding "Ah, that means they can't program or do work".

The models released at the end of this year will make the models released at the start of this year look like the Atari 2600

I'm biased lol, I like Opus 4.6 a lot and it barely ever makes any mistakes. I got Claude Max and haven't run into any limits since, but lowered every other subscription.

Okay officially everyone needs to stop using this website so I can use it
Okay this is the real deal lol. Bytedance playground has Seedance 2.0 for free and 5 million tokens for free accounts (!)

This makes Opus 4.6 slightly behind Codex 5.3 in benchmarks, but you'd never ask Codex 5.3 for anything else.

Anthropic is in general very holistic. There's no Claude-Code model. It's all Opus. They know that the model should be able to do anything and abilities transfer between fields. A model that's good at stories is good at understanding the world is good at users is good at code.
February 10, 2026 at 10:40 PM
When GPT 5 came out Altman and others were touting about how good it was for creative writing, but it wasn't actually very good. Claude Opus is actually very good at it, but Anthropic won't market it on that front cause they don't want to play that stuff up.
February 10, 2026 at 10:38 PM
Opus 4.6 is by far the best model for fiction and personal entertainment. But unlike OAI Anthropic isn't in the business of spooking writers and attracting gooners.
February 10, 2026 at 10:31 PM
No, this is pulled from an alternate world like in Devs.

Yes, it's a bit shitty because it's enterprise-oriented. I don't actually know exactly what this website is.

Okay I actually have no idea what this website is. It seems to be associated with ByteDance because it's BytePlus, but it's not clear to me. I know that this is the real deal, no one else has a video model like this, and it generates them for free. Doesn't ask for anything.
