I think that one of the reasons nerds hate Avatar so much is that it exists and is wildly successful pretty much entirely outside of The Discourse, and so is proof that the Age Of The Geek is not the dominant and enduring cultural epoch they want and believe it to be.

Also, Art is about intentionality. We respond to art because we assume that the artist made meaningful choices, even the small details.
AI makes decisions arbitrarily. Even if it seems good, it’s a fluke. It didn’t mean it. It doesn’t understand anything.

Art is about intention and is a form of communication. There is no intention behind AI slop. Also, being programmed to produce the most statistically likely result ensures all output is inherently derivative. It's purposely built to be a mediocre making machine.

I think what AI bros fail to understand about art is that details are the whole point. the choices the artist makes during the process add meaning to the work. Deferring those smaller choices to a machine makes the decisions arbitrary.
