"People from wealthy homes don’t see those barriers because they’ve never had to overcome them. So when they see Māori getting into medicine, they say it’s because we’re Māori, and we got a free ride. But we’re not getting free rides. We’re just taking away those barriers. That’s it."

Depends a bit on what you want to compare against and over what time period. If NZ had experienced the same excess death rate as the US or UK for 2020-23, we would have had (ball park) 15,000 more deaths than we did.

In the first months of Covid the average NZers biggest worry was waiting in a queue for the supermarket and missing take aways - they had these issues overseas too they just also have overflowing temporary morgues
They fronted up every day, answered Qs whilst making decisions giving us more day 2 day freedom than most countries & keeping 10 of 1000s of us alive
Nats largely supported at the time but wanted to build a MIQ instead of using hotels

Did you watch Crown closing? Admits no alternative plan, tribunal must judge system based on disestablishment act and last year's reforms. How many papers submitted claiming it existed? All bullshit. Judge Stone looked a bit stunned.
