This is terrible, and I also hope readers will note the article’s sidebar list of things ICE *is* (& always has been) Legally Allowed to detain and imprison people for— and ask themselves how many of those offenses really warrant imprisonment &/or expulsion from the country
ICE detained Katie, a British woman in the final stages of her green card process, while she was holding her 6 month old son.

She’s married to an American and was following the process, yet at her last immigration meeting they grabbed her.

She’s been detained ever since:

Emmanuel, a 15-year-old with intellectual disabilities, wandered away from his mom’s fruit stand in October.

She reported him missing to Houston police. But instead of reuniting them, the city turned him over to ICE.

“They’re failing all of us,” his mom said.
