The AI quote from Dan: "It's like having a incredibly brilliant team of research assistants who are also pathological liars" (32m 55s mark).

I wonder if this is traditional machine learning or LLM based. Machine learning as automated stats seems sensible given 1.3 million documents.

As UK ambassador to US is perhaps especially likely to be briefed on sensitive defence information the larger issue is the press (e.g. Bloomberg obtaining emails noted at time of departure from ambassadorship) providing investigative services re: true relationship one would expect govt to perform!
Mandelson 'lied, he lied and he lied again to my team' says Starmer at PMQs (describing the vetting process). Mandelson of course bears responsibility for that. But the question remains: why didn't Downing Street anticipate that a known liar would be lying to them?

An extraordinary document. Read it.

“Attached to this order is an appendix that identifies 96 court orders that ICE has violated in 74 cases. … ICE has likely violated more court orders in January 2026 than some federal agencies have violated in their entire existence.”

www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZMx... from 9:35 or so in I think. If they had used a "Yes, and.." structure they clearly declined then it could have sounded OK. "Yes, folks may be influenced by video, and if the facts include a 35 to 1 deaths ratio of course seeing something as obscene is reasonable".

hey, another round of applause for @lindseyboylan.bsky.social, who has taken very significant risks and flack for being the first to come forward with stories about what an abusive POS Cuomo is.

She's the one who started these dominoes a-topplin'.

Thank you.

I was laid off from Teen Vogue this week, alongside multiple other phenomenal team members.

At our Summit, I was asked how it felt to be 1 of 2 Black women left and what that meant for representation. Now, there are no Black women at Teen Vogue and that is incredibly painful to think about.

Real issue is individual responses, like masking & isolation, having to stand in for better public health response (vax + clean indoor air, sick pay, & monitoring). But dice come to mind. Vax is best "1 step" load dice in favour of oneself & others. But "never mask" implies worst remaining load.

My publisher’s been very patient. I’m not doing everything I said I’d do to promote this book (out in a few weeks) because I’m an organizer in a city under federal attack. My days are full and emotionally exhausting. Any help getting the word out means a lot. It's a book people need right now.

When I turned 30 I had not yet written my first published book or my first published novel and did not know (or know of) some of the most important people in my life. I didn't know how much my life could still change, and did, after the age of 30. There is so much your life still yet to live.
Those who are 35+, what advice do you have for people just entering their 30s?

A brief thread on alt-text.

Alt text is descriptive text that conveys the meaning of an image. It's designed to make visual content accessible to people with vision disabilities. When a person uses assistive technology such as a screen reader, the screen reader will read the onscreen text aloud 1/7

While the first half of the answer points to a conclusion of "book would need to set current actions in historical context to avoid dating very quickly" (which reasonably seems a route - albeit not easy - to a better book) the highlighted half seems very "I like riding these classic hobby horses".
Everyone is, rightly, clowning on Cass Sunstein for the Star Wars stuff in his Chotiner interview, but for me, this part was WAY more revealing

Folks simply have NO idea how lazy our elite "public intellectuals" can be
