I have a short story out today in @pshares.bsky.social about rabbits and the end of the world(?). It was a short story that thought it was going to be a novel and I did all kinds of research at the state fair with rabbit judges. I learned a lot and didn’t need most of it, but look at these bunnies.
Elaine Hsieh Chou’s short story collection is as top notch as Disorientation and that is saying something.

This is several days old. But amidst so much else id missed it. That’s a stunning number. No wonder they about-faced. Reminder of the power of consumers in oligarch era, not subject to the same kind of targeting.

(Stares in first frost was this morning) yeah okay lol
On Threads, the usual suspects are telling ppl about to lose SNAP benefits to just start a garden. As a gardener, I had to laugh. You need at LEAST an acre of land to feed a family of 4. Start-up costs are enormous. But yes, subsistence farming on the balcony of your rental apartment is the answer

As an Iowan who has stopped eating pork because it makes me sad, it’s tough to navigate work potlucks. Legit a coworker announced she’s just straight up bringing bacon to the next one. No one batted an eye.

This is extremely relatable and also I’m reading an arc of this book right now and it’s got the premise “what if Bartleby The Scrivener” and perimenopause radicalized a mother and it’s very funny.

“The Subcommittee overseeing funding for the Institute for Museum and Library Services is on deck for Monday, July 21…

What this means is there is no more crucial time than now to speak up on behalf of libraries and the IMLS than now”
We can still save the Institute for Museum and Library Services. Here's a practical guide to what to do right now to save not just the agency's funding but its future all together.

Part of this is messaging on reauthorizing the Museum and Library Services Act.
