I get to teach a very cool class in the fall.

Race, Immigration, and The American Dream:
An exploration of the ways race and immigration interact with the American dream of success through its manifestation in various genres of American literature.

I'm here for all recs in all genres. 👀

This was a fun one to write. New books from many of you in 2026! 👀

This semester has been one of the best teaching semesters of my life and it's almost entirely because of going 90%+ to pen and paper.

My students are fully doing it, without complaint, and it's beautiful. They're actually reading. They're writing weird shit. They're being brave.

They like this.

"A writer's success is good for all of us. Even if we're not friends with that jerk. It's fine. It's good. YAY ART!"

Indie publishers, I beg you to post high-res book covers and author photos alongside your book links. If you really want to be fancy, add in a downloadable PR sheet.

SELL YOUR BOOKS, MY LOVES. That includes giving reviewers and journalists the PR materials they need without having to email you!

On January 24th, my parents home burned down. They and my disabled brother escaped with only minor burns but they lost everything they've ever had.

I'm running a GoFundMe to help them recover and rebuild. I would be deeply grateful for any donations but also for any shares!

That's so depressing. Why make art, then?
January 31, 2026 at 5:52 PM
Art is so much better in community! In conversation! In friendship!

I don't know who needs to hear this, but how much you publish or whether you've finished that book or achieved ___ only matters in your own head. Anyone else who has thoughts about your productivity can fuck off.

This guilt or shame is yours and you can let it go.

This is art, not a finish line.

Fair enough. I also have that problem.

No specific questions here, but I'd love to hear any and all thoughts about anti-anxiety medications and a decrease in motivation.

Oof, y'all. Striving for balance and failing.

I am. But there are three things at play here regarding ICE collecting private data. Quick rundown on the issue, why you should be paying attention, and what I'm doing about it:
So which politician is calling for the dismantling of the probably illegal database that ice & this government is collecting biometric data of protesters?

This is amazing. But also, I live in Arlington and it's a valid reason to shut someone down.
