メリクリ(meri-kuri), the Japanese abbreviation for Merry Christmas, sounds a lot like “Marie Curie,” so I’m officially treating it as a physics holiday too 🧪⚛️🎄

Just got back to Osaka after 出張 (business trip) to this incredibly cool place in Gifu: NIFS- National Institute for Fusion Science 🧪⚛️

My collaboration there is theoretical but you can see the main device here: the Large Helical Device (LHD)

It really is incredible how far the Israel lobby has gone in convincing powerful people to disassociate antisemitism away from discrimination against Jewish people in an attempt to castigate any and all disagreement with Israeli state policy

If enough people buy it in hardcover, yes. Not an ideal answer but how the business works. Even books that win awards don’t get paperbacks unless they sell enough copies in hardcover.

There will be ebook and audiobook editions, too, which will be cheaper than hardcover.

Ghislaine Maxwell, a convicted child sex trafficker, gets gardening time, sports, therapy dogs, and spa products in prison.

Migrant children in custody are sleeping on concrete floors without enough food or clean water.

Our priorities are so fucked.

I‘ve mentioned that thanks to the Epstein tranche I learned that one of my PhD advisors, Lee Smolin, continued to have contact with Epstein after 2007, which is not the impression I had

It’s weird to say the least for my professional past to become a public story that demands feminist analysis
Lee Smolin pauses working relationship with Perimeter Institute after being named in Epstein files
Lee Smolin has been asked to “pause” his work by the Perimeter Institute as they review ties to Jeffrey Epstein

A child dying of cancer spent her final days fighting to free her wrongfully detained father from ICE custody.

This comes just weeks after a mother from Maryland was denied the right to be at her son’s side as he died from cancer.

Not one dime for this cruelty.

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

Truth! The huge number of attacks on science by this administration will effect the health of our nation (and the world) for years to come
It feels like with the attacks on immigrants and FDA rejecting Moderna, the EPA overturning the ruling on Greenhouse gases is getting overshadowed. Like, this further undermines American science and it will result in many, many people dying in the future but it’s just hard to find bandwidth. 🧪
