hello and welcome to the political genius exam. here is question one. which is a more compelling message:

- the president is sending armies to occupy cities and kidnap and kill people and your town could be next
- a meal at the cheesecake factory that previously cost $100 now costs $104.9
Romance alert: Trump's reckless tariffs have Valentine’s Day costs up across the board:

Roses 🌹16.6%
Chocolates🍫 18.7%
Ribeye 🥩 25.4%
Restaurant meals 🍽️ 4.9%

it's funny following this discourse while being on the philosophy job market and hence being aware of just how many jobs every year are specifically earmarked for conservatives
Maybe it’s just because I’m in PPE circles where these are prominent, but the basic premise doesn’t even make sense. There are loads of right wing (be it libertarian or conservative) funding bodies for the humanities and social sciences already. Things like IHS and Mercatus on the libertarian side

It's cool how Israel has bought and paid for most of the post columnists and are trying to shut down any and all independent media in Canada.

Active threat to our democracy and out politicians are doing shit.

This is a position that a member of Congress can take.
I will not support any funding deal that puts money in the hands of Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, and this violent agency. Defund and abolish ICE now.

The Epstein/MeToo stuff is a real microcosm of the whole thesis of ‘identity politics is class politics’: a universal demand in the MeToo movement (accountability at all levels) sparks a class-based response from those who most definitely don’t want accountability. The victims also defined by class.

i don't particularly disagree with a lot of the critiques of anarchist activism by liberals but I bristle when they act as if their best practices are any wiser. we're here because none of us figured out how to avoid being here.

everyone should have some goddamn humility.

liberals have orders of magnitude more people, financial resources, and institutional support than anarchists do in this particular part of the world and this particular part of the world still looks like what it looks like, maybe chill out a little

Can't now find it but there's a classic old tweet which said something like "Every time we're on the verge of achieving class consciousness in America a CIA sleeper agent activates and, their eyes glowing red, they just tweet out "John Brown was a white saviour"" and I think about it often.

Can't believe I hadn't put these together. The reason MeToo caused a panic and we're still living with the subsequent Gender reverberations is the very same as that huge swathes of the international business, entertainment, political, and academic elite were besties with a sex-trafficking paedophile
in retrospect in the wake of the epstein files being released, no wonder ‘me too’ was met with such anger and ultimately those in power it meant to target never face many consequences

Looks like one of the CBP agents who murdered Alex Pretti was recruited under Obama, the other during Trump I. Violent abuses by the Border Patrol go back much farther than that. Now we're seeing the true cost of creating and expanding that monster.
The Guardian says Jonathan Ross has been an ICE agent for 10 years, so recruited late in Obama's second term. Which doesn't take any blame off those who have now completely unleashed ICE, but he's a product of ICE's longer term history: The monster created and expanded under both Bush II and Obama.
