the high point of my being denounced as a neoliberal shill on tiktok is when i insisted that gentrification is downstream of housing supply constraints, and isn’t a quality inherently possessed by people you don’t like
maybe I’ll get pilloried for like “not getting the joke” or whatever, but this is absolutely how, like, a comfortable percentage of Cool People think the dynamics of housing costs work and it fucking sucks

The Amount of Electricity Generated From Solar Is Suddenly Unbelievable
Solar power has become the fastest growing source of energy throughout the globe, with one gigawatt of capacity installed every 15 hours.

New in PN: Pam Bondi is breaking the DOJ

"The Department of Justice is no longer in the business of justice at all, and has squandered the presumption of regularity it once enjoyed with judges. One of the bulwarks of American civil society is functionally MIA — a massive blow to state capacity."
Pam Bondi is breaking the DOJ
And will take generations to put it back together.

At an estimated cost of $57 Billion the deduction for auto loans will amount to ~three times the amount spent on bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure by the federal government in the last 35 years www.crfb.org/blogs/breaki...

I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy.

I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

Final vote. 50-50. VP breaks the tie.

One single GOP Senator could have stopped this abomination. Saved millions of parents from watching their child go hungry. Saved the lives destroyed when Medicaid disappears.

They will all live forever with the horror of this bill.

45 billion dollars is enough to build a brand new, permanently affordable apartment for every single one of the 75,000 homeless people in Los Angeles County.
If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029:

- $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion
- $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million
- $8 billion for hiring/retention
- Billions more.

Funny how the US has basically the government of Iran now: Supreme Leader who rules by decree, priestly council with token opposition that decides whether the decisions are okay or not on arcane scriptural grounds, and completely ceremonial legislature

This is from Israel's oldest paper. This is Israeli media reporting these war crimes and genocide in broad daylight.

You won't see this in American corporate media. They've continued to ignore this, enable this, even justify and cheer it on.

Do not look away. This is genocide. This cannot stand.

this court says that allowing EPA to regulate carbon emissions is a "major question" that demands congressional debate. but allowing the president to, with a flick of the wrist, end a straightforward constitutional right is something that must be allowed to stand?

this is just an observation but one way to think of the civil war is that it WAS about states rights, but the right in question was the right of free states to stay free
[whispers provocatively] the 1850 fugitive slave act is the model: reactionaries have the right to extend their authority across state lines, and their opponents have to actively assist them

An addled president is shredding the Constitution to usher in white nationalism and fascism while destroying the economy and our health care, so if you’re going to write an alarmist op-ed because a mayoral candidate might open five (5) city-run grocery stores, you can kindly get bent.

People keep attributing issues not being resolved as a "liberals are just capitalists who dont want to actually solve our problems if it harms them", when really it's mostly "everyone drives a car & lives in a suburban home & don't want to actually solve our problems if it harms them"

SCOOP: The State Department's new reorganization plan includes the opening of an "Office for Remigration," a term popularized by far right extremists and neo-Nazis in Europe. The office will coordinate directly with DHS "to advance the President’s immigration agenda."

My report:
State Department set to launch ‘Office of Remigration’
The concept of remigration has explicitly neo-Nazi roots and has been popularized in Europe.

everything is so much more expensive - and the quality/outcomes are so so so much worse.
As a European who now lives in North America I just can’t get over how many apartments here are of significantly lower quality despite having significantly higher construction costs compared to what we see in Europe.
In terms of public perception: light wood frame looks like shit, and it performs like shit. It gives “living on top of each other” a bad name.
