"Today we’re in thrall to a con man who denigrates the very idea of truth and uses media only to distract and divide. And so the CPB board members broke their plowshares lest they be beaten into swords by a deranged demagogue. It was their last act of patriotism."
This is tragic:
"Defunded by Congress and fearing the Trump administration might pervert the organization to further undermine free media, the board members agreed it was better to salt the earth than leave behind a place for Trump to plant his poisonous, choking weeds." — @lizdye.bsky.social

"[Change X] will help us move faster" is a silver bullet seeking symptom unless you can enumerate what accidental/incidental complexity it removes, what it adds, and make an argument that the latter is smaller than the former.

It's like reading "The Monkey's Paw" and thinking "Man, I wish I had one of those."
People who fancy quoting the Melian Dialogue ("the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must") ignore the fact that Thucydides was clearly portraying this as the kind of hubris that squandered Athens' primacy and paved the way for a devastating peer war that it ultimately lost.

this is very weird and unsettling!
If you made a Venn diagram of every weird person I knew in Silicon Valley during the first dot-com boom, centrifuged it, extracted the pellet, and re-suspended it in high-proof eugenics with a splash of AI, you'd end up with something like this.

It'll take a strong stomach to read this "gift" link.

Absolutely blows my mind that Americans have this attitude to work / life. That they put up with hardly any annual leave, being in massive debt for health and education, no paid maternity leave. Greatest land in the World though... for employers.
A Dutch worker went viral after explaining to their American boss that they have a life outside work.

Given everything happening right now, I updated this article with options for weather apps, web forms, and translation services — along with some tweaks to existing categories.

I hope it helps your transition off US tech!
Silicon Valley’s alliance with Donald Trump was a mask off moment and showed the world we can’t depend on US tech companies.

For the past few months, I’ve been trying to get off US tech and I put together a guide so you find alternatives too. I hope you find it helpful!
Getting off US tech: a guide
I’m in the process of dropping US tech services. Here’s how I did it, and options you should consider.
