This is why "centrism" is so useless because it doesnt contextualize that both of the party platforms have shifted rightward over the past generations. A centrist today is much more right leaning then a centrist in the 90s.

I've been studying the history of US, and indeed, global policing my whole career and I can't make it more clear to law makers that this isn't a bastardization of policing, it is its purest form and logical conclusion. The impunity, militarization, deference, legitimacy, racial targeting, etc.

This is what is driving me insane lately. I am so happy to see people rally in person. But until we can rally under the banner of human rights for every single last one of us we are going to just recreate fascism with a different figurehead over and over. And i dont see myself as radical for that.

Yes, and thats why i am so bothered by the "pro america" aesthetic of the no kings rallies, you're not going to out nationalism that nationalists. You're just showing them that you agree that white americanism is the thing worth defending here, the "american way of life", and not the actual people

Nationalism is nationalism. Doesnt really matter which party does it, it glorifies the same thing. I remember the debate over american flags at the 50501 protests and how some folks just could *not* grasp how an american flag could make another human being uncomfortable. They refused to try.

this is what freaks me out MOST about the dem party right now, is they're leaning into their national identity as a response to right-wing fascism, instead of unifying the party around solidarity among afflicted groups

What this says is that Alex Pretti and Renee Good were not the first people to be killed by ICE since Trump took office. Not even close. What this says is that they lied and smeared those people too. They told you those people deserved it and you didn't ask questions.

I think what scares me about the "this is un american" rhetoric is that it is still an appeal to nationalist identity. And making appeals to nationalist identity in the current "america for americans only" climate feels very short sighted.
