Homeland Security doesn’t like it when we call ICE and Border Patrol “the Gestapo.”
So let’s set the Gestapo aside. Instead I’ll use this thread to compare Trump’s thugs to other secret police and terror squads from different times and places. It’s tyranny, no matter where it comes from. 1/10🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵

NO, NO HE WASN’T. Any Pittsburgh fan can clearly see that Rodgers hasn’t integrated into the team. He thinks he’s special and the team is letting him down. Let him go.
Reporter: "In your best-case scenario, do you want Aaron Rodgers back as your quarterback next year?"

Mike McCarthy: "Definitely. I mean, I don't see why you wouldn't ... I watched most of the Pittsburgh games on TV, and I thought he was a great asset for the team."

All of this is fucking senseless. Minnesota did not have an immigration problem. Trump sent his Nazi thugs here because he's racist against Somali people and to own libs like Tim Walz. Now two Minnesotans are dead and Minneapolis is on the verge of going up in flames. None. Of. This. Was. Necessary.

WE KNOW GREENLAND IS STRATEGICALLY IMPORTANT AND THAT THERE ARE BENEFITS IN MAINTAINING A PRESENCE IN THE REGION. THE POINT IS THAT NONE OF THIS REQUIRES TAKING THE ISLAND FROM DENMARK.
The Arctic is warming around four times faster than the rest of the globe.

The changing landscape created a region ripe for opportunity factors that may play a role in President Trump’s sudden quest to obtain Greenland.
Melting ice may raise Greenland’s value. Trump’s fight may be just the start.
Trump has said he wants the territory because of its strategic location. Maps show how a melting Arctic is affecting geopolitics.

Every time proliferation discourse comes up and people are like "omg these countries need to wake up" I want to remind them that these countries aren't stupid and the nuclear era isn't new.
A lot of the nuclear proliferation discourse assumes other countries are thinking about the nuclear option for the first time when that couldn't be further from the truth.
Not trying to dunk but so much commentary is implying US allies are stupid and don't know anything when the exact opposite is the case. This has always been the tradeoff of independent vs extended deterrence and allies know it.

Example # 50,372 of military officials who misuse the term “deterrence” in reference to future conflicts. Deter who from doing specifically what? I don’t think China is impressed.
Adm. Samuel Paparo, commander of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, said this week that military intervention in Venezuela and missile strikes in Iran have enhanced America's deterrence of adversaries in Asia by demonstrating "capabilities and will." (from @wyattwolson.bsky.social)
Strikes on Venezuela, Iran bolstered deterrence in Pacific, Navy admiral says
U.S. military intervention in Venezuela this month and missile strikes in Iran in June enhanced America’s deterrence of its adversaries in Asia.

In a week where we watched JD Vance and his cronies threaten the media and protestors for telling the truth, The Washington Post decided that Jack Smith was the real threat to the First Amendment. This is insanely dumb -- even for WaPo.
