The rest of the world needs to understand that Donald Trump is a planetary existential threat, drop their differences for a minute, and handle this. The United States is not all-powerful or untouchable. Sure, it's a many-headed Hydra, but you can't be afraid to handle it.

They reduced cases, hospitalizations and (rare but real) deaths from the disease massively.

And the worries that it might increase shingles risks (which were honestly based on very limited data) turned out wrong.

Adults benefitted as well, and shingles rates began to fall.

A Hampton Inn in Asheville just canceled my family's reservation because our address (incorrectly) showed Asheville—and the hotel bars locals within 50 miles.

When I asked why, they said, "because of our homeless population," adding that most hotels here have similar policies.

This is outrageous.

Liberals: It's only fair that you have the right to be a bigot.

A pretty striking recurring feature of the Supreme Court is the insistence on ruling as if their ideological preferences are reality and then insisting everyone trust their good intentions and judgment when dealing with the fallout.
Kavanaugh goes out of his way to pen a footnote not having to deal with the case at hand.

He appears to be trying to narrow the forces he unleashed with his prior opinion allowing for race- and ethnicity-based #KavanaughStops

This video shows that she doesn't even understand the purpose of an education. Just wild she would agree to say this on camera.

And all an indication that OU does not at all have its faculty back! She admits she didn't do the work!
Worth noting that the student admits that she just threw the thing together in 30 minutes without reading the paper she was supposed to be responding to.

It's a particular kind of cruelty to deny families the help they need to stay together, take their children, and then—despite a *multibillion-dollar state surplus*—cut transportation for visits, family preservation services, and parent support programs.
In Georgia, a mom facing eviction reached out to DFCS for help. They offered her nothing. Soon the agency took her kids away because of "inadequate housing."

The state then paid *$6,200 a month* to house her kids in foster care.

One of the most important and infuriating stories I read this year:
When Families Need Housing, Georgia Will Pay for Foster Care Rather Than Provide Assistance
In more than 700 cases over five years, Georgia reported inadequate housing as the sole reason for taking a child into foster care, a WABE and ProPublica analysis found. Advocates say it would be chea...

In Georgia, the state has made "catastrophic" cuts at DHS, citing an $85 million deficit.

A provider described one result: a mom who relapsed last week. "Visits with her child were keeping her sober, but transportation services had been cut."

Georgia is sitting on a $14.6 *billion* budget surplus.

“It turns out that banishing the slur from public discourse was, in fact, important. Because now it’s back and it turns out that it does matter when subtext becomes actual text, when terrible people enable open hatred and bigotry, encouraging others to emulate them, degrading us all.”
Perry: The return of the r-word
"These days, the r-word slur has become a staple of the American right wing, uttered with few professional or social consequences," David M. Perry writes.

UNC being like your syllabi are work for hire so you don't own it is legally dubious.

Many of us write syllabi when we have time--that is, when we're off contract.

Many bring syllabi they created at other institutions.

Many adjuncts create syllabi for teaching at multiple schools simultaneously.

it's a really striking example of the way white resentment is aimed and shaped; the way the visibility of race & gender (combined with their interpretive flexibility) make them into flashpoints
