I found out that you can reuse a decades old calendar if its year’s dates line up with the current year’s, so this year I got a lovely 1998 Xena: Warrior Princess calendar. The way they added show events into it is cracking me up.

Just to say, any Tory up in arms about the possibility of Starmer banning X, these are the powers put in place *by you* in your Online Safety Act. This is Boris Johnson, Nadine Dorries etc. This is yours.

Time for the first group game of the year. Very much looking forward to it since Call of Cthulhu is decidedly cheery compared with the real world.

The Battle of Tannhauser Gate should have opened the movie, but it was cut for budget reasons.

GenAI is not inconsequential, but exorbitant attention on its failures diverts attention away from all of the other—far more thoroughgoing—forms of AI that are being used to violate
and impoverish citizens by means of data extraction and arbitration.
Excellent reporting.

This is the precisely the purpose of algorithms that displace human labor and human interaction; it’s not a glitch, and rather than focus on hypothetical harms and doomsday scenarios that only serve as PR for how powerful “AI” is, look at the harms it’s doing right now.
You've probably been following the story about fraud in MN. I wrote about the people who provide services who are being driven into bankruptcy, thanks to the Walz' administration decision to hire Optum AI to screen all payments. It's a disaster.

Worlds/Ashes/Cities Without Number are on sale for a fairly hefty discount at Drivethru. Fantastic world building tables even if you don’t play the game itself.

Whilst snow is rare, it‘s forecast for tomorrow. My Golden Retriever is going to be beside himself with joy if that happens.

I rarely get snow in my corner of Kent, but my favourite memory of how useless the English are with snow was when the local shopping centre was hit by a sudden light dusting. Chaos. The entire place ground to a halt within minutes. People were losing their minds.
School and nursery have both emailed to say they might be closed tomorrow. Grocery delivery cancelled. Nearest international airport has cancelled all flights.

Folk from countries that get proper snow please laugh at what’s caused this:

ROBIN OF SHERWOOD (1984): Michael Praed was The Hooded Man in Richard Carpenter's dark ITV drama, which fully leant into the mythology of the character. Magic, demons, the supernatural, pagan myth, and Robin's Obi Wan Kenobi, Herne the Hunter, all featured. Still the best Robin Hood ever!

Not to make a joke out of an obviously dangerous defect, but how is a BMW lurching about and changing direction randomly any different from the standard BMW driver?

I urge those worried about losing their elderly parents to try something similar, if they can. My dad has been gone nearly twenty years and realising that I can longer remember his voice clearly hit me nearly as hard as his actual death.
I've started keeping any voicemails my parents leave me. They're getting older and their health isn't great. I'm fully aware that I'm lucky to still have them but terrified they'll be gone soon.
