Yes it’s cold in Minnesota—but we embrace it. John and I were in Hastings with Mayor Fasbender for Hockey Day Minnesota to watch my alma mater, Wayzata High School, take on Rogers. Photo taken with parents right after their son scored a goal!

A more serious issue on the topic of renovating a home. Apparently manufacturing quartz countertops is very dangerous.

Kitchen countertop workers are dying. Some lawmakers want to ban their lawsuits
Some safety experts want California to stop the cutting of quartz countertops saying it can't be done safely. Lawmakers, meanwhile, contemplate a ban on workers' lawsuits against quartz manufacturers.

Your first instinct will be to look away

It's important that you do not
You can hear Jose scream in excruciating pain as an ICE vehicle runs over his foot while he's being detained.

His family says Jose is a good man, with no criminal record, who works in roofing.

He needs to be released from detention to receive appropriate medical care.

Oof I get this and it’s hard when you struggle to retain memory.
“Well, if you’re going to write a war novel, you have to do it while you’re in the war. If you don’t do the thing while you’re there—at least the way I operate—you can’t do it. It slips away."

Story of my life. Trying to get it all down before it slips away.

Honestly good advice.
My writing warm-up has nothing to do with words. It's closing 17 browser tabs, reheating my coffee for the third time, and staring blankly at the wall for 90 seconds (minutes.) Then I can actually dig in.

But I'm working on it. 🤞

This is illegal. Trump and Republicans shut the government down, and now they are resorting to unlawful threats to try and cover up their recklessness.
Scoop: White House memo says furloughed federal workers aren't entitled to backpay
A move to deny backpay to up to 750,000 furloughed workers would dramatically escalate Trump's pressure on Democrats to end the shutdown.

Rushed to the Farmer’s Market this morning because I thought it was the last day, but apparently there’s one more weekend!

Also got TWO compliments on my Bikini Kill tee (including one from a lady I was very much not expecting such a compliment from—never judge a book!). Yay small wins!

#MonsterTheEdGeinStory is more about the influence he had over cinema and pop culture than it is about getting any truth out about his life, it seems. It’s disturbing, gross at times, and yet as a fan of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Psycho, I can’t stop watching.

This is the very best use of the hipster homing beacon, though! I always use it for the same purpose. Love a proper latte requiring zero sugar because that’s just how good those beans are!
My hipster homing beacon never fails: it led me straight to the most pretentious coffee on the south side of Dublin 🙈

Windows & doors of ICE #Broadview are boarded up. So nobody can see in. No elected officials can get in to see people or assess the site, as is their right. It's actually not all that large a building. But I guess the important part is the roof, where the guys with guns hang out & DHS films #content
There’s no medical staff or services at Broadview. No food preparation. No beds. That’s all by design because the facility was created for holds less than 12 hours.
