The President of the United States has incited this kind of action against a sitting, Black woman member of Congress. Where is the “tone down the rhetoric” brigade?

I don’t let bullies win.

Grateful to my incredible constituents who rallied behind me. Minnesota strong.

I am. But there are three things at play here regarding ICE collecting private data. Quick rundown on the issue, why you should be paying attention, and what I'm doing about it:
So which politician is calling for the dismantling of the probably illegal database that ice & this government is collecting biometric data of protesters?

You want to be a secret police but in this country you have no right to be secret about what you’re doing. And so we will continue to watch every step you take in our city, tens of thousands of us, because you have proven beyond all doubt that you cannot be trusted to operate unseen.

Imagine a paramilitary gang kills 2 observers over 2 weeks, then shows up at your home to say, "You, observer, we know where you live."

That's a death threat.

If it happened to me or a colleague when I was a human rights observer in N. Ireland, we would've lodged complaints with three govts.
One human rights observer in Maine said agents followed her home, blocked off her street, and came to her door to say they know where she lives. Her children are now staying elsewhere, to keep them safe.
Now in Maine: ICE watchers say federal agents are coming to their house to threaten and intimidate them.

It could take a generation to recover the talent lost from federal science.

But it doesn't have to. We should be ready to scale up the Presidential Management Fellowship program to triple what it once was and rebuild U.S. capacity by 2030.
How many STEM Ph.D.s were lost from the U.S. federal government last year?

My colleagues @mghersher.bsky.social and @policyhound.bsky.social dug into a recent data release to find the answer. A @science.org exclusive.

ICE murdered Renée Good in broad daylight. Less than 3 weeks later, they killed Alex Pretti, shooting him 10 times. Every day, we watch as people are ripped from their cars, their homes, their lives.

We can't allow ourselves to look away from this cruelty. Abolish ICE.

I will give Suozzi more credit than he gives himself. He knew what the vote was. He just figured the way to "win" was to support the funding because that's more "centrist" and buck the Democratic majority. But morally, he knew what this was about. He ended up wrong morally AND politically.
