What's happening now is kind of worse. The Nazis rose to power while the German Economy was in shambles, with hyperinflation, etc. The great crisis in America was “You must be nice to people you don't like”. The original Nazi-enablers were facing starvation—we were facing tolerating drag queens.

No aurora borealis, but I did get my first static-electric shock of winter, so I guess that's something.

Even if you believe that "Prozac + guns = violence" how do you target the MEDICINE for tighter controls?
It's so weird how antidepressants only cause the impulse to commit mass violence in the country where there is easy access to guns. What a coincidence!
First they came for reproductive rights.
Then they came for vaccines.
Now they’re coming for mental health.

There is zero evidence SSRIs cause mass violence.

You know what does? Guns — and the fact that anyone can access weapons that kill hundreds in seconds.

We need more coverage calling out the cowardice in these shootings—it's the best way to get the shooters themselves to start blaming Fox News.
Still thinking about this story. Imagine how cooked your brain has to be on Fox News -- how terrified you have to be, every day in your isolated suburban castle -- to start *shooting* when you see brown people at your door, before the door is even open. We're such a nation of terrified cowards.
Cleaning worker who mistakenly went to wrong home fatally shot: Police
The shooting victim died from a gunshot wound to the head, the coroner's office said.

Think about buying a car, a fun, stress-free negotiating process that everybody loves. Now imagine that if you don’t buy a car you die and if you buy the wrong car you also die
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

The most bizarre thing about American healthcare is that at this point NO ONE KNOWS WHAT ANYTHING COST. The providers and insurers have been playing games with the numbers so long that they are completely divorced from reality.

The system cannot be reformed. It must be scrapped.
this is an extremely common and well understood surgery, obviously this was not a real number, but what the fuck

healthcare costs are an absurd kabuki theater between insurance and providers and no human being can possibly be expected to manage this shit

anyone who says otherwise is lying to you

A vision:

@duckworth.senate.gov bangs the gavel, putting the impeachment trial into recess. She sits back in her chair and reads a document handed to her. Casually she pulls out a ZipLok bag, opens it, pulls out a piece of raw meat and eats it.

We learn later it's @schumer.senate.gov's liver.

Srsly. What IS their strategy here? Securing their pensions?
Not that he didn’t already know, but now Trump knows for sure he can roll the Dems every time and there’s no need to negotiate for anything

So much this. The Democrat leadership is delusional.
There are two things to understand in this moment and have to be first and foremost when addressing politics:
- There is no Republican Party; there is only a Trump-run neo-Confederate death cult
- There is no Democratic Party while any member acts like there’s a Republican Party

Every single person in Little Village fighting ICE/BP this week, each one of those people had more courage than the entire party leadership put together. Every single person in the street resisting in LA, Portland, Chicago, they're ALL showing more backbone than useless top tiers of Dem apparatus
I keep seeing regular Americans taking more risks every day to fight tyranny, want, and cynicism than I see from the opposition party, and I imagine many of those regular Americans are asking themselves what the value proposition of such an opposition party is, really

Blame *all* Democratic incumbents for this surrender. Not just the ones voting for it. The others could have voted to remove Schumer long ago and install a leader capable of formulating a strategy and holding his people together. They were content to stay with a proven loser.
I will not support a deal that does nothing to make health care more affordable.

We are in a health care emergency. A simple one-year extension of these tax credits would cost less than Donald Trump’s $40 billion bailout for Argentina.

A vote for this bill is a mistake.

Let’s be clear: Chuck Schumer is the one ending this shutdown, no matter how the votes read.

Chuck Schumer is claiming that he’s voting no, while letting other Senators (Fetterman, Kaine, King, etc) do HIS dirty work.

He must be removed from his leadership & primaried for the sake of this country

I think Senate folders are significantly underestimating how fucking angry Democratic voters are at them
