Hi please check your closets for this issue of Play, it's the last one we need and nothing makes my librarian ass grumpier than missing exactly one issue of a publication. Two is fine, one makes me obsessive.

Ha - I have a friend who is a legit influencer. She jokes that I’m leaving a lot of money on the table.

I seriously reply, “I want to know fewer people. Not more. What hell is this?!!”

And there’s my position on influencing
You could become a cookie-deadlifting influencer. I see big cookie $$ in your future

An absolutely incredible interview and a rollercoaster of a conversation. The audio version is even better, and includes more -- including thoughts at the end about the importance of writing "alongside" people, rather than "about" them: "That feels truer."

The idea that education is intended for girls and disadvantages boys is beyond ridiculous. Look at the history of education and how girls and women were prevented from accessing it. Girls are still penalized today for showing too many inches of skin because it’s a “distraction” to the boys

It is a little weird to me countries aren’t more aggressively, formally trying to take advantage of the U.S. science brain drain. Once in a lifetime opportunity to buy low on Non-Dumbass Americans with PhDs who just wanna look into microscopes and quietly cure ass cancer as our country eats shit.

I don't have a lot of regrets, but a big one is not having some self-indulgent boudoir photoshoot in my twenties when I was weightlifting and looked incredible.

If you are currently in your 20s and looking incredible, I advise doing so. One day, you will be old, and stunned you were ever so hot.

End-to-end encryption is secure because it protects the contents of your communications in transit between the endpoints. If you make one of those endpoints an editor at The Atlantic, no amount of encryption is going to save you from your own stupidity.

Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research.

I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.
NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.

Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.
