In a new paper..the deepest ever found of these mounds [is] at 3,640 meters—or some 2.26 miles—below the surface.”

This administration lied about the people it sent to an overseas torture prison. It lies about the people it’s deporting. It lies every day to gain political advantage. Not a chance in hell they won’t lie about huge swaths of people they suspect might vote for the other party.

the President owning an online betting market where you can bet on what the President will do seems both deeply unethical, and stupid for bettors

Casino:
"Hey you can bet on when the buffet is out of prime rib! 10pm"
Chef: <checks bets> joe, pull the prime rib at 9pm
"dang, lost again"
The Trump family is fully embracing prediction markets: Donald Trump Jr. is an adviser of Kalshi, and the president’s TruthSocial is planning to lunch its own prediction market, which would in theory allow high-dollar betting on actions the federal could take.

YESSSS. I wrote about holiday arguments a few years too, and my main point is the same:

Do not debate the details of bad-faith arguments. You will lose! Instead, pivot to agenda, and talk about billionaires. And media. It actually works.

For anyone girding their loins for political arguments tomorrow, I recommend a moderator’s response to an @askhistorians.bsky.social post from a couple of years ago; it includes a passage about bad-faith arguments from a Sartre essay that knocked me off my feet the first time I read it.
