I tried to put together an honest assessment of why we even care about weather balloons in a satellite world and why these cuts probably won't be noticed by the public 90% of the time. But the 10% of the time? That's a very, very, very big and concerning 10%.
A thorough, honest look at how weather balloon launch cuts may impact our weather forecasting capabilities going forward. In short: It's complicated, but the risk profile will almost certainly increase.

Let's debunk this whole "space is hard" mantra.
Looking at all NASA-led missions launched since 2000, only 4 out of ~60 missions experienced total failures.
Two of these were due to issues with the commercial launch vehicle, & two were spacecraft issues.
That is a *93% success rate.* (1/n)
