Martian robot spinning her turret!

A video sequence captured by the Perseverance rover using her Right Mastcam-Z science Camera on Jan. 27, 2024 (Sol 1044). The full sequence, accelerated here, actually took 3 minutes.

The Horn Antenna in Holmdel, New Jersey

Using that instrument, Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson accidentally discovered the persistent radio hiss that had a profile consistent with relic radiation from the Big Bang, cooled down over billions of years.

On Christmas Eve 1968, in Lunar orbit, the Apollo 8 crew took this photo: “Earthrise."

I'll never forget how inspiring the Apollo missions were to my brother and me as kids. They showed us what our country and humanity can accomplish when we work together toward a common goal.

Seven years from tonight a small asteroid might make a new 1.3 kilometer wide crater on the Moon. Of course the refined path of 22024 YR4 may well rule this out between now and then, but for a couple years there can be a bit of photogenic suspense. Rendered in Electric Image Animator.
