I don't think anything better sums up the actual thought behind the modern conservative movement than "giving a white girl nepo-baby a bad grade for an essay in which she failed to cite sources and mostly just insulted people is illegal"

Every attempt to analyze the class position of artists and other creatives on social media is doomed to failure because "artist" is not actually a meaningful class category to begin with, and artists may in fact fall in different classes depending on their particular situation

This is the correct take. Stewing in white supremacist propaganda is bad for your thinking. And if think you are so savvy that it won’t impact you, you are the exact kind of mark they are slowly converting (I’m looking at you, centrist pundits).
It’s really funny how a generation will roll its eyes at parents who watch Fox News but doesn’t see why being immersed in Twitter is having the same effect. Lots of serious people show up on Fox News too but that shouldn’t be your primary source on the news.

It is both hysterical and extremely fortunate that everyone in Trump's orbit is too brazenly incompetent to actually establish an authoritarian regime even with the country's entire elite class prostrating themselves and begging for one

I mean I guess it’s sort of fun after a decade of people insisting everyone and everything even mildly critical of the democratic party is Russian, to find out instead that a ton of them seem to be Indian and Nigerian and not trying to destabilize America for Putin just make some money

It's crazy how the average democratic primary voter apparently cares more about epic clapbacks to Drumpf on social media than any, like, actual material opposition to Trump and his policies
New Hampshire - Democratic Presidential Polling:

Buttigieg: 28%
Newsom: 24%
Harris: 6%
Pritzker: 4%
Booker: 4%
Shapiro: 3%
Klobuchar: 2%
Beshear: 2%
Whitmer: 2%

You spent all of 2024 putting every college protest organizer behind bars, revoking charters for progressive student organizations, and establishing 24/7 police presences on college campuses ready to crack down at the slightest indication of dissent.

Gee, I wonder where the protests are.

The thing is that I'm temperamentally agreeable to the idea that you should avoid protesting places of worship altogether or to the best of your ability, but this is qualitatively different from claiming that there's nothing illegal or wrong being done when hosting an org that promotes settlement.

As a general rule, most people decrying "government intervention" regard state activity they approve of as merely ensuring the default, correct state of affairs and state activity they disapprove of as an artificial and unnatural infringement on it.
in general the American individuality and distrust of government disappears once criminal justice enters the conversation

Americans hate the government meddling in their everyday affairs but "criminals" are a separate class of ontologically bad people that they could never ever be a part of

Apropos nothing else, it seems that Nefesh B'Nefesh does in fact enjoy tax exempt status in the US. Actually existing US tax law would seem to imply that their assisting American Jews in moving to the occupied Palestinian territory is a pretty clear cut and dry case of not being a charity.

Remember this whenever someone tries to justify their continued consumption of HP with "it belongs to the fandom now"

Brooks is emblematic of the American intelligentsia; his entire career is built on indicting "the elites" (by which he means middle-class liberals) for being smug, self-indulgent, and insular, but he is deeply outraged by attempt to hold the actual commanding heights of power accountable.
Someday you, too, could have the moral fortitude to look upon a years-long rape circus organized by the nation's most powerful elites and declare, "The people upset about this are speaking about it the wrong way."

Thinking a major thing delaying the popping of the AI bubble is that investors appear to be expecting a government bailout, and are reluctant to pull their investments because they do not want to miss out on the bailout
NVIDIA earnings were a mirage. The market figured it out surprisingly fast. NVIDIA bump evaporated.

I don’t know how this information can enter the system without exploding the bubble.

But sometimes bezzles visible for months before crash.

Waiting for the feds?

It's a who's who of hate groups and billionaire-funded anti-trans activists.

The majority of the “expert” comments cited in the “peer review” seem to be just as ignorant as the authors about the reality of trans people’s care.

I feel like the last couple decades of "is representation good or not?" discourse missed more important questions of "how fragile is representation?", "what do we do when multiple industries eliminate it as an intentional move against us?" and "how can we sustain queer artists when shit goes south?"
"According to the report, [...]during the 2024-25 television season, queer characters increased across platforms by 4%, bringing the total to 489. However, the Thursday report found that 41% of those characters will not return." www.thewrap.com/glaad-where-...

Not even necessarily because I disagree with the sentiment, but because I find the phrase itself deeply embarrassing
