The heat was on at the EU summit yesterday!

For the first time, the Council clearly put electrification at the heart of our energy system, calling for “ambitious electrification using all net-zero and low-carbon solutions.”

Our new analysis: Europe aims to get off gas - so why are governments taxing it way less than electricity?

Tax is a key tool governments can use to boost heat pumps and Europe's sovereignty & energy independence!

We discuss this + more at this week's #HPForum.

This week I participated in a workshop and was struck by the difference between younger male collegues who were speaking up like they were used to being listened to, and younger female collegues who were timid and not used to being listened to. Damn, are we still here…

Walked a lot around Sligo over the last few days, the air is so much cleaner than a few years ago. One anti-social house burning smoky coal. But otherwise a big improvement.

All markets, all homes and all grids will work this way in the future, many already do. If we do it quickly, we gain competitiveness, security and hit climate targets. If we do it slowly, we lose the first mover advantage, create extra warming and provide more funding to dictators.

Heat pumps are magic and electrified homes are healthy. Let's get fossil fuels out of our homes and away from our loved ones. They must be affordable and accessible for ALL. Kudos to @rewiringamerica.bsky.social for this report.
Electric heat pumps, the most affordable and energy efficient way to heat and cool homes, continue to outsell gas furnaces nationwide. They can also reduce outdoor pollution and, as a result, save lives, according to a report issued on Tuesday. Here's how.
Here’s How Much Cleaner Energy Could Save America, in Lives and Money
Widespread adoption of heat pumps could prevent thousands of premature deaths and save billions on energy bills, according to a new analysis.

We get media clippings every day from British and Irish papers. The campaign against green energy in the British right-wing press is hard to overstate. It is daily, fact-free and unceasingly aggressive.
The Telegraph's landing page for articles about Ed Miliband is simply mind-blowing.

Never has a newspaper's bile, bias and obsession directed at a single person been so evident

Worth noting that the EU isn't the only part of the world considering electricity market reform - and doing a bad job of integrating demand side/consumer energy resources into the discussion.

(Yes I know we just finished another EU power market reform but the debate on the next reform is starting.)
The ToR for this review are frankly pretty disappointing. It is 2024; we shouldn’t need to squint at references to consumer energy resources to justify a conversation about the demand side of our energy system and the value it could/should deliver. We can do better than this
