Great story.
Okay, here's the story of George de Hevesy vs the Nazis! I really do love telling this story.

First, some background: George de Hevesy was a Hungarian-Jewish chemist, but he spent most of his career post-1920 attached to the Niels Bohr institute at the University of Copenhagen, in Denmark. (1/n)

"We get to see the larger community response, which is: what can I do? How can I share? What do you need at the moment?” Such a good, nuanced piece by @libbybrooks.bsky.social looking at the confluence of factors causing tensions in Glasgow but also how the city is fighting Reform's toxic rhetoric.
‘The response is a beautiful thing’: how Glasgow is squaring up to Reform
In the face of Nigel Farage, flag-waving and a longstanding housing crisis, some Glaswegians are taking on anti-immigration rhetoric

Laughable if you can't remember a recent government passing legislation on music involving 'repetitive beats.'

Plus ca change.

In the UK as well as the US, political figures are holding up four fingers and the press are telling us it could well be five.

There is not a single trustworthy news source amongst the mainstream/heritage media in either country.

And they complain of cynicism.

Happy birthday. I learnt a lot there. Unfortunately, little of it concerned the subjects on which I was required to sit exams.

Not your fault.
Happy Birthday to us! 🎉

The University of Glasgow is 575 years old today. We have been changing the world since 1451!

This year we will be celebrating the centuries of impact of UofG, while looking towards to the future, with our #TeamUofG community around the world.

Geordie walking off over the Tyne Bridge at the end of Our Friends In the North with Don't Look Back In Anger playingis completely fucking monumental.
Given that apparently the Stranger Things finale was meh (idk, didn't watch it, just the scuttlebutt) and we're not that far removed from the disastrous GOT finale that retroactively made everyone have never cared about the show:

What's the *best* ending to a show you've ever seen? Quote/reply etc

Sprained my thumb pinging the kettle lid to make a breakfast cuppa.
What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain.

I was born in 1970

This story of North & South has been going on for all my adult life….

The decisions made far from where I live work and generate wealth have made a huge impact on my life.
"Welcome to Decline" -- still one of my favourite graphs from last year. In the late 1970s, Britain's economic fate very clearly split in two. How much you blame Thatcher will depend on your politics, but her leadership is useful to understand the timing. tomforth.co.uk/welcometodec...
