Yesterday I said goodbye, toodle-pip, farewell, au revoir, offski ye go to Twitter/X and Instagram/Threads.
All the fun went out of the former and I never got a handle on the latter, and as for their owners.......

Anyway maybe Bluesky is a place to be, for now, look after it!

Ok, who's with me for a Scotland world cup song...

The Proclaimers re-write Letter from America, segue to a suitably re-vamped 500 Miles

Obviously the lyrics need changed, but the tunes are iconic.

Surely it is time for Scotland's fishing industry to support independence?
Successive Westminster governments have shafted them, doubly so with the Brexit shambles.
It's not going to improve under UK rule, is it?
Time to wake up!
Scotland’s fishing industry delivers over 60% of the UK’s catch - but Labour thinks we should settle for just 7.78% of funding. 🐟🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

There’s a vote in Parliament today.

Will Labour stand up for Scotland’s fisheries, or just stand up for Keir Starmer?

UK Government funding for Scotland’s fishing is an ‘insult’, says minister
Mairi Gougeon’s comments come ahead of a vote in Holyrood on Tuesday to agree that Scotland should receive more cash.

Be like Norway.✊️🇧🇻
"But Socialism does not work"

Except in Norway which invested the money from its natural resources for infrastructure, housing, trains, hospitals etc... while Thatcherism sent all the wealth to the 1% meaning Britain has food banks & mass homelessness while Norway has thriving public services.

It's amazing how many people don't 'get' this.

It's why I'm looking forward to living in a kinder, fairer, Independent Scotland.

Here I am in 2020 in the flimsiest, most pitful PPE - like so many other NHS staff, some of whom died from the Covid they caught in their hospitals.

Tory peer Michelle Mone - who today lost her legal case & must repay the govt £122m - dares to claim she’s been ‘scapegoated’.

What, Michelle? 🧵

So why aren't the people of Scotland benefitting from all this? If we were independent we would be able to control supply (inc ownership) and therefore prices. Think about it.

You YES yet?
In Scotland our electricity costs are amongst the highest in the world. Meanwhile In 2024, Scotland generated 38.4 TWh of renewable electricity and exported 19.7 TWh to other UK nations. So, about 51.3%, just over half, of Scotland’s green electricity was exported to the rest of the UK

Despite generating the cheapest electricity in Europe, Scotland's electricity bills are set to rise today along with the rest of the UK. It *could* have been different if we'd realised we were being conned in 2014.

Read this. 👇
Northern Ireland now clearly moving away from the "union".
Despite obvious differences between the factions, the majority see membership and participation in the European Union as a better bet than fealty to a "United" Kingdom.
A while back, I posted a jokey list of "favourite brexit benefits" (through an Irish lens) on the other place.

#2 was "Brexit changed the conversation in Northern Ireland" about reunification.

That is now no longer a joke. It's very very real.
