imo a combination of ideology induced myopia and a broader sense that trump 2.0 was more of the best chance these people have to get the policy outcomes they wanted without abiding by congress or the law before the lame duckification fully sets in
i know one view is that "they don't intend to lose power" but i honestly think this gives them way too much credit.

imo the notion that europe should continue with a US-less nato just feels like revealed preference fueled by resentment over military dependence accelerated by trump's 2nd term. what will europe do if they get it and have auth right parties take over just in time?
No things probably won’t go back to how they were with Biden and yes rebuilding trust with the US will take time, however those who suggest Europe should move on and make a new NATO without US involvement aren’t considering that completely replacing the US is far more difficult than it looks.
