Prison abolitionists seem to genuinely believe two things:

1. Abolishing prisons will reduce crime.

2. Crime is nothing more than a reaction to capitalist oppression.

How literally anyone can still believe either, let alone both, in a post-Epstein world is beyond me.

Prison abolition already functionally exists for the upper 1%, who are very much NOT being oppressed by capitalism. They are doing the oppressing, in fact.

And wealthy people still commit crimes ALL THE GODDAMN TIME.

So no, I'm not the slightest bit convinced that prison abolition would solve more problems than it would create. All it would do is give ALL criminals, of all economic statuses, as much freedom as Epstein thought he had.

An update on Minnesota:

ICE is still here. They've just moved to the suburbs where they're less likely to be noticed while they continue to commit abhorrent kidnappings.

We are adapting our patrols to continue trying to keep our neighbors safe.
Two female ICE agents popped the hood of their car and knocked on the door of a mechanic born in Mexico. He went out to help.

“A bunch of agents jump out and tackle him, essentially restraining him, and take him away...His six kids are now without their father." www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...
ICE drawdown? Indications point to steady enforcement activity outside the Twin Cities
Some people who observe ICE activity are skeptical about a large scale drawdown of agents in the state. There are indications that activity has decreased in the Twin Cities, but has continued outside ...

Maybe we should ask Bill Barr
Why would federal prosecutors in 2019 tell authorities in New Mexico to stop their investigation into Epstein and Zorro Ranch?
New Mexico is pursuing long-overdue answers by investigating Jeffrey Epstein’s Zorro Ranch through a new subcommittee that was just created by the New Mexico House.

I’ve got the details, including why the state’s AG’s Office stopped investigating Epstein back in 2019.

I think a lot of leftists are reluctant to admit this, but the right wing, when it wins, does so in part because they do a better job of having each others' backs for the sake of the cause.

You don't need to love all your allies unreservedly. You just need to get along well enough until you win.
The right's messaging is strong because they understand that politics and media are separate jobs for separate people.

Right-wing media, whether it's big corporations or small influencers, don't whine about Republican politicians having bad messaging. They just spread the message itself.

The Fetterman revisionist history is crazy. In the real world he’s a Senator today because the left wing rallied for him because Conor Lamb was seen as a centrist establishment stooge.
imagine going to a car dealership with a T-shirt that said “I’m going to buy a car no matter what today.” this is exactly how you get swindled. this is how you get a snake like Fetterman in power, out of desperation. you will never force the Democrats to change if you don’t put pressure on them.

Prison abolitionists have the same energy as the "capitalism must be destroyed" folks. In both cases, okay, you have successfully convinced me that Bad Thing Is Bad. Now you need to move on to Steps 2 and 3, What Do We Replace It With? and How Do We Know The Replacement Will Be Better?

The greatest fighters for trans rights are moms of trans children. In terms of both energy and logistics.

While our alleged activists are spending their time bickering with each other online and attacking democrats during election years, moms of trans kids are focused, relentless badasses.
Tell you what I’m OVER: The patronizing framing of feature stories marveling at how moms are throwing down right now for their communities. Come on. They’re constantly doing this emotional labor, planning, and work. It is not a stretch to assume their *skills* can be put to use on a larger scale.
