The best case scenario is that Trump will waste $38 billion. The more likely outcome is that these will become warehouses of human suffering, and a permanent stain on America's history.
Breaking news: ICE expects to spend $38.3 billion on its plan to acquire warehouses across the U.S. and retrofit them into immigrant detention centers that can hold tens of thousands of people, according to agency documents.

I feel like this should be a bigger story.

Also...I don't begrudge him for doing this because I know the reality of a budget and aspirational politics are often like oil and water.

What I do begrudge...all the super left bullying people because we pointed that out.

It feels like it’s built into the structure of leftist politics, now, that there’s always one issue that’s overridingly important, the democrats are always unacceptably wanting in this area, and the solution is always to refuse to vote for them.

The issue changes over time, but nothing else does.

Dear young'uns, you may not realize this, but there was a time oh, about 15 years ago or so when maybe one-in-four Democrats were openly anti-choice and one-in-three Republicans were openly pro-choice.

I know, it sounds weird, it *was* weird, but you'd occasionally have some Dem in a rural district who was somewhat liberal on spending but really bad on guns and abortion, and we'd put up with it because it was them or someone much worse. GOP did the same in the 'burbs but in reverse.

Bernie Sanders convinced a generation of the left that it was always better to hold out for perfection rather than accept the best available outcome, and it kind of wrecked everything.

On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

Senate Democrats blocked a DHS funding bill after the White House refused demands for ICE reforms, setting up a partial shutdown tonight. Meanwhile, a grand jury rejected Trump DOJ charges against Democratic lawmakers, and AG Pam Bondi faced heated questions over her handling of the Epstein files.

Biden's economic project was one of heavy state investments! That's not neoliberalism!
Neo-liberalism is the status quo. Biden did not ditch the status quo. If these extra things he did besides maintaining the status quo count towards “ditching neo-liberalism” then neo-liberalism was ditched during George H.W. Bush.

Either way, Biden did not “ditch neo-liberalism”.

I don't understand why the left is still focused on complaining about us Democrats. They wanted to punish us by not supporting us in 2024. They did that and it turned out just like everyone knew it would.

Instead of complaining still, they should be celebrating what they've accomplished.

It's also sort of understandable that a lot of pop/vulgar leftism is, shall we say, *ambivalent* on the notion of political administration requiring expertise. Traditional elites have often cited their expertise to shut down challengers!

But that doesn't change that you do, actually, want expertise
This manifests also, obviously, in cases such as the reaction of disappointed communists to the repeated failures of ostensibly-communist states to institute the program of idealistic Marxism. They keep blaming failures of principle, of theory, but there are also simple failures of administration!
