Into the Quantum Realm: my SKETCH of Kemi Badenoch and Nigel Farage, to whom the rules of time and space don't apply.
Quantum politics | Robert Hutton | The Critic Magazine
Kemi Badenoch opened her press conference on Tuesday with a revealing complaint. Labour, she said, were blaming Conservatives for the state of the country “long after they left office”.

This article should be read by every teacher of history. A powerful analysis of the why and the how of teaching about the Holocaust in an age of misinformation and conspiracy theory. Brilliant writing from @andypearce.bsky.social

Listening to Steve Reed explain on the radio today that he can't say what Mahmood's plan means for kids of people who give birth after they've been granted asylum because that's a hypothetical Q govt can't be expected to answer right now made me think these reforms are going to unravel quite fast

Mahmood using racism to justify racist policies is cynical and should be beneath her.
Labour's Shabana Mahmood: "I wish I had the privilege of walking around this country & not seeing the division that migration... is creating across this country... unlike him... I'm the one that's regularly called a fucking P*ki & told to go back home... the system is broke" #ukpolitics

Shabana Mahmood asks MPs to stop mentioning Tommy Robinson's name (in relation to his support for her policies) as "he doesn't even think I am English. I find that offensive."

Could someone better able than me set out that #Kindertransport is not a good example of Uk government welcoming #Refugees please?
Thanks

I keep shouting fuck off at the tv.
This is not good.

Have I made this up or did #Labour say when elected that they would talk about irregular immigrants not illegal?
Seems like a long time ago.

Why not start with the safe and legal routes and take it from there?

What is it about the Home Office which inculcates in Home Secretaries (going back to Blunkett and May) this performative cruelty?

And where is any evidence it works?

Other than amping up xenophobia does borrowing Trump’s ICE rhetoric actually it have any deterrence effect?

This document is the product of a broken administration, motivated by cynicism, immune to human decency, with a weak-to-non-existent understanding of the policy area they wish to legislate in.
And that's it. Overall impressions are
- there's still a surprising lack of detail
- lots of new work for officials but unlikely to lead to much change on the ground
- refugees will still live here rest of their lives but will struggle even more than before to integrate

Asked about Tommy Robinson supporting her asylum plans Shabana Mahmood replies that "Tommy Robinson doesn't even think I'm actually English, so he will certainly not be supporting anything I've got to say."

But he is supporting what she's got to say. That was the point of the question
