Parliament revamp could cost £40bn and take 61 years - What a ridiculous waste of money! We need a purpose built Parliament with a debating chamber in the shape of a horseshoe, a seat and desk for every member, electronic voting and so much more.

The Sewar of Scotland.
There’s always a post.
Especially on the X platform.
Anas Sarwar says today of Peter Mandelson: “I'm utterly disgusted and furious about the entire situation … He never should have been the ambassador to the US.”

For context, here’s Sarwar in April 2025 love-bombing his ‘old friend’.

They think we are stupid.

He is an amoral opportunistic chancer.

£40 billion?

Much cheaper to turn the old HoP into a tourist attraction and build new Houses of Parliament outside London, with sufficient seating, electronic voting, and also basic apartments so that all the accommodation expenses fiddling can cease.

This, for me, is the decisive argument for getting rid of FPTP: voters, activists, and strategists will effectively be going into the next election blind, and a lot of the results will feel basically random
Looking at the Gorton and Denton contest is like a foretaste of a GE where voters are given multiple messages, ‘only X party can win here’ based on - often - relatively poor data and bewildering changes in the national picture 🤯. I’m concerned about how we could provide decent information.

After moving to #Scotland over 5 years ago, I went on a #curling taster course at #Ayr ice rink. 4 years ago I playfully suggested that I would get in training for the next #WinterOlympics.
Unfortunately the ice rink closed shortly after, scuppering my training programme....

Hot Take 2: if this is Mandelson's position, there is no reason for him not to issue a statement to this effect. If he has not issued a statement to this effect, the BBC's "understanding" of his actual position may be inaccurate. Stop letting people play this game.

For decades, more sustainable & responsible cities haven’t just been possible — they’ve been common sense, logical, & ridiculously obvious! And yet we’ve failed to act, for many reasons, including that we’ve let ourselves be lied to.

A better future thru better cities is STILL possible. #Leadership
