Well, this is pretty terrifying. The Daily Mail is buying the Telegraph.

One massive consolidated right-wing media empire controlled by off-shore interests at a critical moment in global politics.

What could go wrong?

After two weeks of #COP30 negotiations, countries agreed to BEGIN DISCUSSIONS on fossil fuel phase out. And as the article says, "they achieved this incremental progress only in the teeth of implacable opposition from oil-producing countries."

THIS is the problem with requiring unanimous decisions.

Good article on the little bit of climate action progress that has been achieved, the little bit more that we have committed to but not yet achieved, and the huge amount we have not achieved.

Every reduction in global warming matters, but the successes are far outnumbered by the failures.

Racism is not justified by immigration levels or rising poverty, unemployment or crime.

It is not justified, period.

I see the rising wave of voices & arguments justifying the rising levels of racism as the most sinister political development in 2025 on the British landscape.
The Home Secretary explaining that the rise in racist violence is, actually, the natural response to higher levels of immigration is a state of affairs that can't exist without the government having largely decided that racist violence is, if not legitimate, at least understandable.

One of the things I'm always struck by whenever I investigate the topic of wellness or alternative medicine is how much the promise of empowerment and autonomy is used as a cover for absolving the practitioner of responsibility when it all goes wrong. And this is highlighted so explicitly here.
This is an astonishing and maddening and sad story, just incredible work from Sirin Kale.

It’s also downstream of many of the things @aliceemmalouise.bsky.social has talked about on @skepticswithak.org for a decade - medical mistrust as a result of medial bias, exploitation of women as empowerment.

No more wars for the oil industry.

The blood of Americans and Venezuelans is a far more precious commodity than crude oil, especially when sunshine and wind are free to be freely harvested to power humanity's ventures.
GOP senators voted down a law requiring their "approval for any attacks on Venezuela, blatantly ignoring the disapproval of a public they are meant to represent.

So the bombings and the build-up continue, with Trump matter-of-factly telling a journalist, 'We’re just going to kill people.'"

I feel like the last couple decades of "is representation good or not?" discourse missed more important questions of "how fragile is representation?", "what do we do when multiple industries eliminate it as an intentional move against us?" and "how can we sustain queer artists when shit goes south?"
"According to the report, [...]during the 2024-25 television season, queer characters increased across platforms by 4%, bringing the total to 489. However, the Thursday report found that 41% of those characters will not return." www.thewrap.com/glaad-where-...
