No10 released details of a batch of phone calls with world leaders all at once - quite an unusual step. They say the PM said the same thing (the above) to all leaders and haven’t released a specific outline of the call with Trump. Suggests either they’re being v cautious, or the call was tough.

I as a British Republic dreamer would be most pleased if King FA Cup Ears booted such greedy, disruptive Turncoats out of the House of Lords.

Mogg’s father, William Rees Mogg used to make expert predictions of what would happen to the economy, politics or strategic balance which usually turned out to be wildly wrong. Private Eye took great pleasure reporting Mystic Mogg’s inaccurate predictions. Like father, like son - alas, poor Sixtus.

I think this is astute and it is a big part of why I don't think that the 'bottom up' stuff really works - the joy of the public information stuff is that it allows you to exit from bad behaviour without having to lose face or concede you are behaving badly.
(I think there was something in them assuming that obviously you didn't want to be a dick to fellow passengers and if you were doing annoying things you mightn't have realised and could now stop that was well calibrated)

If you are surprised that everyday non-political/non-activist Minnesotans are rising up against ICE, you have not been to Minnesota.

Lived in the TC for ten years, never known people more likely help a stranger out. Not that other places are hostile. But Minnesota raises the bar.

I know in my heart that the Siege of Minneapolis will go down as one of the biggest political blunders/grossest abuses of federal power in American history. Just a matter how long that consensus takes. Next week? Next year? Next decade?

It would be helpful if members of Congress started saying that. "Our government is now run by a man with advanced dementia. Only republicans can prevent him from damaging the US further."
Use the word "dementia" as often as possible—repetition works! It sure did with "Biden is old."

What Greenland shows is (as @davidallengreen.bsky.social argued last yr) Trump is an extortionist - give him s’thing, & he demands more, w more menaces. You can’t sustain an alliance like that. Question now is whether Europeans, incl UK & Ukraine, can unite to stand up to Trump as well as Putin. 2/2
