The thing about the internet is that anyone can share any thought.

And they do.

And that’s why it will always be worse than real life.

My theory: AI investment is a play for infrastructure. Layoffs are to soften the losses to placate shareholders.

But this has always been about infrastructure, and not for AI.

The long game? VR and AR environments with corporations operating as defacto virtual governments.

This shouldn’t need to be said. But it does, because a loud and vocal minority of chronically online people insist that moral absolutism is an adequate substitute for empathy and compassion.

They preach a kind of secular moral purity—they’re fundamentalists without a church.
Before I go to bed, unfriendly reminder that boycotting Amazon and other services is just *not feasible* for some people. Income, disability, access to other services, lack of transportation, delivery fees, etc.

It doesn't mean they're "complicit". It means they're a victim of capitalism too.

“They wear masks because they know they’re wrong.”

No they don’t. They wear masks to avoid consequences, but they still think they’re right.

Batman wears a mask. So do many other heroes. They see themselves like that, or they wear masks because it’s an “in-group” behaviour and they wanna belong.

Americans, here’s the thing:

I really like you guys.

In general, I think a lot of Americans are hard working, decent folks with a fascinating and dense history for your relatively short existence as a nation.

I hope you never stop yearning to fulfill the ideals that underpin your country.

Whenever I get depressed or anxious, I remember that I can pick up a magic rectangle and watch the world tear itself to pieces and then make gifs about it.

And that makes me feel much better.

AI videos are getting more realistic at the same time as AR technology begins to spread.

I bet that footage from the latter will feed the models for the former and result in realistic AI-generated AR footage.

Which leads me to wonder: in a few generations, will anyone even believe what they see?
People are opening up Meta AI Ray Ban glasses and modding out the LED recording light, then selling them on eBay. There is huge interest in disabling this functionality, which means basically you cannot trust anyone wearing these (i'm sure you already weren't)

A $60 Mod to Meta’s Ray-Bans Disables Its Privacy-Protecting Recording Light

Amen. And it isn’t just about faking reality.

It’s also about discrediting reality.

Jump ahead couple years and imagine video footage is released incriminating a politician.

Videos like the ones this guy is talking about are writing the playbook on how to handle that with an AI smoke bomb.
This person is one hundred percent correct and it’s scary af. We will never “media literacy” our way out of this as a society. We are about to reap the whirlwind when it comes to misinformation, disinformation, and informational warfare.

I’m obsessed with this.

I find myself wondering if COVID had a long-term biological impact on our brains. Even if it only affected like 10% of the population that way, the people around them would be affected in terms of mental health.
Im still baffled daily on how even the brains of seemingly reasonable people are just broken now.

There's a lot to study from Zohran Mamdani's electoral victory, but I'm particularly interested in its graphic design. Vivid, unexpected colors. A hand drawn feel that nods to the grassroots nature of the campaign, with nods to old NYC bodega signage, metro cards, and even old Bollywood posters.

#AI is for propaganda.

Specifically, it is for English-language propaganda.

I don’t see anyone talking about this, but it’s the elephant in the room. LLMs are exceptionally good at creating believable colloquial English.

They are lousy at Russian, for example.

I would go back thousands of years and tell three stories:

1. Doctor Parsec
2. Into the Dark
3. First Light

It would go back to before the invention of lightspeed. Before lightsabers.

It would focus on a single planet’s final days in an unexplored and unconnected galaxy. 🧵

This surprises me because I’ve always thought of it the other way around.

As an Egyptian-Canadian, I’ve noticed no one talks more about politics than people who feel powerless—many Arabs fit that bill. The ability to ignore politics is a privilege, because it means you’re not as affected.
I have friends who are genuinely confused when I point out to them that being politically engaged is a luxury item lots of folks don't invest time or money into. They don't think deeply about politics until and unless it directly affects them. It's an alien thought (and I get it!), but it's true.
Too many people on here seem to believe there are exactly two kinds of Americans: ardent politically-obsessed Bluesky users, and frothing MAGA cultists.

There are a LOT of people in this country who *just don’t pay a lot of attention one way or another*.

And we absolutely can reach them.
