As a Canadian, I was expressing what I hope Americans will do next, regardless of the outcome. I’m hoping that they won’t make restoring hegemony the goal, but rather strive to regain trust through bold and principled action.

Hegemony may be dead, but leadership is still on the table.

if you’re making a flat observation that America will no longer enjoy the same hegemony it once had, I agree. Those days are over.

Though I’d argue they were waning for many years anyway.

But the meaning of that loss in dominance is not clear. And America still holds a ton of power.

I’m Canadian.

Because Americans are going to fight hard to earn back that trust? Because Americans haven't given up and are intent on showing the world that theirs is not a history of always being right, but rather never surrendering?

The resignation and defeat I've been seeing in Americans is what's scaring me.

Not on you, but I understand the reader. Email is one of those things people check because it can literally shape their day. Even when avoiding spoilers, they may still prioritize email.

On your side, you can have a policy of avoiding subject lines that say too much.

On theirs, they need filters.

Bro, same here. I cared so much about this one because my kid got into it and it was awesome seeing him so hyped. He fell asleep watching, and it’s going to suck to tell him the Jays lost.

Though I bet he will take it better than me.

Today is gonna be the day that they’re gonna say an awful truth.

Every single time.

But I try to frame it like this: I didn’t have a super productive day, I just had a normally productive week on a different daily schedule.

Helps remind me that a day is a data point; it isn’t the trend line.

I have studiously avoided upgrading all my devices. For the first time, I’m waiting until the .1 releases, because I’m tired of how unstable their software has become.

Don’t project your ideology on random people you’ve never met to make yourself feel good about the state of things.

People rarely see themselves as the bad guys. They are capable of horrors precisely because they convince themselves that, in the right light, their behaviour is virtuous.

It’s a show that rewards rewatching because you catch all these little throwaway references you likely missed before.

I stan that show, but I do get that it isn’t everyone’s thing.

There is one episode that has Lana, Archer’s mother Mallory, and Cheryl in the bathroom. Lana is talking to Mallory about Archer. Cheryl, applying lipstick, says, “suck it, Bechdel test.”

In another, Cheryl hears the score of the show and mumbles to herself, “just ignore it, it’s non-diagetic.”

Haha well, for me Archer is funny because it’s farcical. Farce puts awful people in ridiculous situations that they often had a hand in creating.

It’s kind of a safe, low stakes way to lambast the very worst of humanity. I find that funny.

Also, Archer has a ton of ridiculously niche jokes.

So true. Also, much of what makes humour hit right is context. What we find funny in a sitcom or a stand up routine would feel very differently in a casual conversation.

I laugh at cartoons like Archer. I’d hate to actually deal with him.

Hahaha Toronto is a bit distracting right now
