Gender-affirming care saves lives
1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

Bumping this thread bc there is yet another long form review out that purports to summarize the text and in the process gets it wrong, this time demoting my mom to a founding “member” of an organization she started. Founder. That’s the word!

Why is it so hard to tell women’s stories with respect
So there is a review this week in @thenation.com of a book that is 1/3 about my mother and grandmother and their organizing work, and this is now the nth review that states the misinformation that the Wages for Housework Campaign ended in the 1980s.

This is completely false. 🧵
The Enduring Lessons of Wages for Housework
Emily Callaci’s history of the international feminist movement examines the influence of their intellectual and political victories.

No one wants to accept that it's not A Talk, it's like six talks plus random questions at breakfast like the one I got yesterday about polyamory, which was a lot to formulate an answer on before I'd had my coffee.

"Would you and Dad ever ..."
"Honey, how lazy are your father and I?"
"Never mind."
Adults are profoundly uncomfortable with teenage sexuality in a way that is just not helpful at all. I get it, no one wants to have The Talk, but at the same time, abandoning kids to The Streets for all their insight into sex is wrong.

Sex ed should be mandatory and all students regardless of gender should study periods, childbirth, PCOS, and endometriosis.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

They can’t help themselves when it comes to hurting women.

I must’ve been a postdoc at MIT or a new-ish engineering professor when I first heard the story of how Ben Barre overheard colleagues talking about how his research was so much better than his ‘sister’ Barbara’s.
We're disappointed to see Ben Barres's powerful book "The Autobiography of a Transgender Scientist" among the ~400 titles removed from the Naval Academy Library. Needless to say, we're proud to have published his book and will keep it — and his memory — alive.
