Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson has passed away at the age of 84. My thoughts are with his family.

I wanted to share this clip from his appearance on Sesame Street in 1971. His important words ring just as true today as they did back then.

My last bastion of getting a chocolate malt, @portilloshotdog.bsky.social , is gone. Oh, sure, you can order one, but nobody there knows what a chocolate malt is, so they just give you a chocolate shake and hope you won't notice. 0 for 5 so far.

@steaknshake.bsky.social dropped malts post-covid.

RIP Robert Tinney (November 22, 1947 – February 1, 2026), the artist famous for his playful covers for Byte magazine, a hobbist magazine that ushered in the microcomputing age from the mid-70s through the 90s. I'm honored to have included his work in my own art collection.

New PicoIDE update is up! In which I enlist the help of @gloriouscow.bsky.social to understand the IBM PC/AT’s 16-bit bus when PicoIDE was acting strangely on mine www.crowdsupply.com/polpotronics...
Taming the IBM AT
This update tells the story of tracking down a series of subtle issues I ran into when testing on a historically important machine: the IBM Personal Computer AT, also known as the 5170.

I wrote a tribute for BYTE Magazine's amazing cover artist, Robert Tinney, who died Feb 1st

Tinney painted 80 vivid and surreal covers illustrating various concepts in early personal computing from 1978-1990, usually airbrushed with gouache. May he RIP ❤️

Today's irrelevant hot take: Space Truckers is Meet The Hollowheads with a budget.

(Out of everyone who loves cheesy, obscure, cult films, I'm guessing only two people worldwide will get that reference.)

THE HALIKAN LIVES

The Chaplet Halikan LA-30 is an interesting 80s laptop on its own but this one busting into 1000 pieces & being restored by PolyMatt takes it to another level. Let's dive into using the PC itself, its odd quirks, and its small but fascinating spot in history!

I ordered a print. I paid a few extra clams for a customized doodle. The print arrived. It made me smile. I read the customized doodle. I laughed for a full minute.

Give this man some of your extra clams.

So last week @darya5711.bsky.social and I built this new thing to replace what OJ and then Bitfellas used to provide:

Thinking about creating a Bluesky / Mastodon feeds for it as well, but not 100% sure they're really necessary.

This is Jerry Lawson. He invented the video game cartridge for the Fairchild Channel F system. Because of his invention, many consoles had cartridges and CD formats and would become the norm.

The Atari 2600, NES, Genesis, and many consoles wouldn't exist without him.

Happy Black History Month.

This weekend wrung me out. I transitioned jobs, as my previous company was sold to a new company.
We moved my older son into subsidized housing for the disabled after a 3-year search. My younger son's friend died. Catherine O'Hara died.

Is there a state beyond burnout?
I feel emotionally... empty.

RIP Floyd Vivino, Uncle Floyd. Andy Merril's tribute is how Floyd would have wanted to be eulogized, Floyd having been a musical prodigy who learned all of the vaudville songs his relatives would sing and play. The Uncle Floyd show was a big part of my childhood growing up in NJ.
