If you build it they will come. OK, I didn’t so much build this bee hotel as buy it from John Lewis and stuck it up on a post near our Sunflowers, Cosmos and other insect-friendly flowers and waited … Today my patience was rewarded.
Very cold this morning when I went to top up the bird feeder and Roberto was absent. Hope he is OK. Meanwhile, here is our other resident #WinterRobin whom we shall call back-garden Riccardo. Was he eyeing up the figs still on our tree or just waiting for peanuts?

Anyone who thinks the US is anything other than a dictatorship should be forced to watch this brief clip until they come to their senses. I’m looking at you Starmer and other cowardly Western leaders who think they can deal with the felon in the White House. He isn’t a President, he is a Nazi.
What in the Gestapo is going on in Grand Rapids?

Watch this activist get arrested *mid-interview* for speaking out against U.S. action in Venezuela.

What were books like in ancient Greece and Rome?

If you were to visit a bookshop in the ancient world, what would it be like?

Lit by the wintry January sun our Acer griseum, paperbark maple or blood-bark maple, puts on its own colourful show when the garden is otherwise mostly barren and lacking interest.

I tried to capture the Moon last night but, as so often, failed. However, I caught this eerie, moonlit snowscape in the garden with Orion striding through the blue night sky.

Alan’s #BirdOfTheDay alt theme is #most; the bird you think you have most photos of. I don’t need to count mine to know. So, here is today’s #WinterRobin Roberto never lets me down at breakfast. Just the three for now. I do have more and that is just Monday. Froze my wottsits off, though. 🥶

According to various European myths, the wren is a fire bird. Its "fire" refers to its legendary role in bringing fire to earth, losing its tail feathers to the heat in the process, which explains its stubby appearance.
