Update that I was fired again from NOAA Thursday evening. Apparently "retroactively" to February 27.

NOAA is being dismantled. This will affect basically any human that breaths air and lives in this world. Speak up before it's too late.

(The Atlantic) If you have a strong stomach and patience, an excellent story to read, first-hand, of someone taken for three days by Trump's ICE. It is hard to read. What has our country become? Tragic, depressing, hard to discuss positively.

What makes a country great in the 21st century is science, and it’s really insane to purposefully destroy its science enterprise.
I think a lot about what Carl Sagan said in one of his final interviews.

Proposed NOAA budget zeros out ALL climate laboratories and cooperative institutions.

GFDL, NSSL, GML, etc.

This appears to also end the US greenhouse gas sampling network, including at Mauna Loa, the oldest continuous carbon dioxide monitoring site on Earth.

Rest in Peace, Pepe. You are a legend, hero and example to many. I wish I had a tiny bit of your courage and resolve, but not all of us can be Mujica, and I will do my best.
Thank you for everything.

one thing that reporting this and every other story on DOGE that cannot be overstated is the degree to which @wired.com’s reporting has been positively vital and opens doors for others when we do our own work. eternally grateful to them for the amazing body of work
If there’s one thing I’ve taken away from reporting on the current DOGE collection of govt data, it is that the people who’ve previously spent their careers carefully handling this information believe there is almost no limit to how it could be abused (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...

the arrest of a judge by ICE and FBI for such bullshit reasons is a Rubicon crossing moment. not the last, but a major one.
This brings the inevitable problem that the sitting judge he just arrested has to go in front of another judge now. What that judge does in response to such a blatant abuse of power will low-key decide the future of the country.

2/4. The entire practice of the Holocaust of the Jews involved zones of statelessness. It is easier to move people away from law than it is to remove law from people. Almost all of the killing took place in artificially created stateless zones.
