99% sure that 100 pitch count became standard because James Andrews joked it came to him in a dream.

Here's the knob positions to achieve 16" of VB at 60 mph for various HB values on a full-sized Hack Attack. I can do this for any combination of HB, VB and velo. Anyone interested?

Anyone have a good piece on the differences between being the head coach of a large D1 program compared to the responsibilities of an MLB head coach?

Crazy that the Mariner pitchers were a total buzz saw through TOR’s lineup after the first.

Threw 100 pitches *total* in 9 innings with 27 of those in the first!

Miller looked 100x better innings 2-6.

Ideal outcome for SEA
Feels weird to say but best options for the Mariners might be to be up a lot, or down a lot in the first 3/4 innings.

Either way they could get by with Miller then some combo of Hancock, Ferguson, Vargas, Jackson.

In April, Toronto had the worst bat speed in baseball. Worst! In the postseason, they're swinging as fast as the best teams in April did.

Has to be pretty high up the list on worst ways to lose a game

I kinda love that Vlad hates the Yankees and is going to kick them out of the postseason.

Among MLB SPs from 2008-2015 who threw 2 mph or more harder than league average when they debuted, 50% have thrown 1,000 or more MLB career innings.

Among those who who threw 1 mph or more softer than league average, that number was 15%.

The Dodger won last year largely without starting pitching and now they’re going to give it a go this year without any relievers.

This is in my recap but the Dodgers' Actual Relievers are allowing an OPS of 1.714 in this series and have allowed as many extra-base hits as they've recorded outs
Dodgers starting pitchers* have covered 96 of 108 outs this season (32 of 36 innings)

*starters in this case include Roki Sasaki, Emmet Sheehan, and Tyler Glasnow pitching in relief

Garrett Crochet's 117th and final pitch of the night -- the most in a start in his career -- was a 100.2 mph fastball for a strikeout.

That was his fastest pitch of the night and his fastest strikeout pitch of his career as a starting pitcher

Incredible outing.

Darkly hilarious box score after the trade deadline. My goodness
August 2, 2025 at 2:58 AM
Haven’t really heard any speculation on this but I do think that AZ & MIL would be a fun trading pair.

MIL pitching depth for Naylor/Suarez.

AZ can cover at bats (Lawlar, Smith, etc), MIL pushes their chips in on an improved offense, AZ gets younger SP depth they lack in the minors.

No idea what his methods are but people generally understate that players have agency in their own training decisions.

Especially for anyone who assumes this one drill or training method will solve injuries or whatnot.
I talked to Billy Carlson at the combine. Don't have a standalone article coming, but he said, unprompted, that he was making clear in interviews that he had his own specific way of training and wouldn't give it up if his pro team thought differently.
