Cosigned. Every time I hear nonblack folks say woke the way white conservatives do, it makes me scream internally. When you misuse woke, you are frustrating the Black people around you (if you don't have any Black people you know in your life that's another topic but anyway!)
Stop using the word "woke" the way white conservatives do. "Staying woke" just means to be aware of the ways structural inequality and police violence harm Black (and sometimes other oppressed) communities.

at one point, i watched a cook county sheriff’s officer (who appears to be in charge) point out a priest in the crowd.
he and a couple officers then went into the crowd , dragged him into the street, and arrested him.

Having done a little work on the racist mythologizing and appropriation of the Romani in the avant-garde tradition, I find this thread bracingly informative.
When people say that Wuthering Heights doesn't have anything to do with race or that no film has engaged with race, what they mean is that for them Romani people do not count and they also haven't been paying attention. This suddenly makes me think that in countries with low reading comprehension (now nearly all of them, definitely including the USA), criticising characters like they're real people in a true crime 'guilty or not - y/n' series replaces genuine critique/theory/analysis, among other things.

Thatcher's government did this with Section 28, banned the "promotion of homosexuality" as a danger to children, while actively protecting Jimmy Savile and who knows how many other pedophiles. It's the same damn playbook.
I cannot begin to properly articulate how upsetting it is to have had people baselessly accuse trans people of being groomers and pedophiles only for it to come out that they were deliberately doing this as part of a project to provide cover to actual groomers and pedophiles in positions of power

In a lot of ways other leftists chose this path folks. They shrugged and didn’t care when Patreon banned a ton of hypnosis and TF creators, or when YouTube started their ASMR crackdown. Now it’s coming for queer porn creators, more and more. Who will stand up?
