One more time for the folks in the back.
3) Moving right on immigration normalizes the radical right, their positions and rhetoric. Normalization is a key precondition for electoral expansion of the radical right. Programmatic accommodation and collaboration normalize the radical right and open new segments of the electorate for it.

🗳️ Populism is a warning sign.

English local elections show it again: People feel abandoned & look scapegoats.

Drawing on own research & others, I argue 👇🏽

💡 To counter populism: We need to reinvest in citizens, e.g. housing, health & dignity.

To Counter Populism and Bolster Security, Europe Must Reinvest In Its Citizens
Facing security threats and rising populism, Europe needs state investment in citizens, not austerity that fuelled discontent.

Die Themen Asyl und Migration haben den letzten Bundestagswahlkampf maßgeblich bestimmt.

Doch welche Forderungen schafften es in den Koalitionsvertrag? Und was davon ist juristisch umsetzbar?

Happy to see my article on IOM's role in refugee resettlement out in @ersjournal.com. How do IOM's pre-departure courses construe knowledge about resettlement as a pathways and host societies' norms and values? What are refugees' perspective on such courses?

Alles weiter so. Das geht nicht.

Just so people do not draw the wrong conclusions. Like other social democratic parties, the SPD has lost only very few voters to the far right. Today's AfD supporters are mostly not former social democrats. We outline this in detail here, for example: politicscentre.nuffield.ox.ac.uk/media/1awhrc...

I see it after all elections with wins for populist radical right parties (PRRPs), also now with AfD in Germany:

Weird wild stories about how much ethnic minorities vote for PRRPs, explained by stereotypes.

A lot of anecdata, not much actual data.

But, I recently published this paper about it:
✨New publication in Populism & Politics✨

Do minority voters tend to vote for Populist Radical Right Parties (PRRPs)? And why?

Though Dutch Muslim minorities are much less likely to vote for the PVV, French and German Muslim minorities are actually just as likely to... 🧵

It matters that scientists speak out against what is being done to US science.

Staying silent is neither "objective" nor "staying out of politics".

Silence now *is* political - it supports the status quo, says "nothing to worry about".

We need to sound the alarm.
