Can journalists start referring to Trump as "criminal Donald Trump?" It's verifiably true (he has felony convictions). If we really want to include "president" in there, maybe "President Trump, convicted felon"
Here’s how Tricia McLaughlin defended this earlier today; focusing on his criminal record (and exaggerating it greatly by telling about charges and not the far lesser offense he pled guilty to).

Anyone have a pattern for dog sweaters that they've enjoyed making/worked well for their dog? This would be for an "English-style" Labrador who's on the smaller side. ~60 lbs but much more compact & shorter than my rough collie (~50 lbs). #knitting #knitsky

I think one of my biggest "I'm getting old" complaint is that it seems like people now expect roads to always let them drive at their preferred speed, regardless of weather conditions. I remember when I was a teenager, it was normal to expect to drive slow/for things to take longer in the winter.

One of the many reasons I need to deal with The Mess that is my basement is that I'd like to add landline service to my house again, and that will require letting a service person into the basement...

I'd like more reviewers to take stands. If you find the use of generative AI in game development repugnant and you find its use ruins a game for you, then that's the review you should write. And that low score is the score you should give.

UPDATE: The Senate votes 53-47 to shoot down the Baldwin amendment to extend ACA funds for 1 year. A party-line vote with every Republican rejecting it.
An important vote in this series: Tammy Baldwin’s proposal to extend ACA expiring funds for 1 year. It’s structured as a motion to table (i.e. scrap it from the amendment tree). But it’ll show the appetite (or lack thereof) in the Senate to address this issue.

also if you notice you're complimenting someone when they're not around, tell them the compliment directly, it might be the only way they ever find out people are saying nice things about 'em
Hey, say something nice to your internet pals today, okay? We're all overwhelmed all the time with so much negativity, it can be nice to consciously break that.

"What is obvious, however, is that the Democrats who both voted to initiate the shutdown and then caved in the face of no material change of circumstance were either wrong 41 days ago or are wrong now."

Overall my Bluesky experience is pretty positive, but there's a lot more "haha this person was bullied as a kid it's totally cool to keep bullying them" (or just "haha I can make fun of them for being made fun of") and "this person's body looks funny to me" than I would like. It's frustrating.

That last line.
MSNBC reported Schumer's office felt that the longer that shutdown went on, the more likely it was that people would start to blame the Dems.

My kingdom for Democrats that don't govern out of fear. I've said it before and I'll say it again: The American people are far braver than their reps.

Lots going on but from outside it seems that at least part of the calculus was that flight disruption for middle class and up travelers matters more than life disruption for untold numbers who’ll be deprived of health care.

This is why this surrender isn't just about this narrow issue but is rather the whole constitutional ballgame:

Democrats are affirmatively signaling they do not want political power at the same time Trump is transitioning the political system into an autocratic one wherein they're denied it forever
Not that he didn’t already know, but now Trump knows for sure he can roll the Dems every time and there’s no need to negotiate for anything

in any case it is wild that voters just sent a huge message and a bunch of senate democrats are all, “it doesn’t look like anything to me”

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Sorry, everyone who doesn't want to see this stuff. I will probably stop angry posting soon. But right now I am very, very angry.

Democrats are going to go from having an amazing election that showed Americans supported them and their fight directly to taking the blame for what ended up being a totally pointless shutdown.

If they did cave because airline owners were crying about their profits (or fear of travel issues), ugh.

Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.
