If 40 million people go hungry, it would be because the Trump administration ignored a court order, not because Democrats fought for Article I powers.
I think one thing we lose sight of is that it’s really easy to chant that we gotta touch the stove, and it’s a completely different thing to be the owner of the ongoing decision that 40 million people gotta go hungry. That’s a heavy thing and I’m not at all surprised that some Dems are worried.

congress is a russian nesting doll of counter-majoritarian structures. seems to me that there's no need for a supermajority rule on top of that!

I think Padme is much, much more interesting as Star Wars' Good Liberal With Unfortunate And Ironic Blindspots (including keeping Anakin's volcanic temper and war crimes a secret) than she is as an angelic symbol/excuse for Anakin's fall

oh so these people do pay attention to who politicians follow on social media, they just don’t care that the vice president follows a bunch of actual neo-nazis
Axios tried to bust James Talarico for following adult content creators on Instagram and I'm genuinely impressed by his campaign's response

The key factor that everyone seems to always forget is that Trump was the host of what was once the highest rated show on network TV - a purportedly non-fiction show that portrayed him as a hyper-savvy and hyper-successful businessman.
Trump has gotten huge numbers of infrequent voters to the polls, twice. He's deeply unpopular but has mobilized a large, unprecedented coalition of Americans motivated by some combination of ignorance, avarice, and cruelty. It is hard to describe what he has as something other than charisma
His charisma is fundamentally incompatible with me (and likely many of the people on Bluesky) but it’s kind of insane to say it doesn’t exist

whatever you think of Spanberger, the fact that her opponent ran a campaign based almost entirely on transphobia and is on track to eat shit in the biggest blowout the state has seen since 2009 is unambiguously a huge win
Earle-Sears ran what felt like 12 billion ads about how much she hated trans kids and I didn’t hear a single pundit say she should stick to real issues that affect real people.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrat Abigail Spanberger wins Virginia governor’s race.

ANNIVERSARY is not a particularly good or smart movie, but it is excellent if you like watching stuff ostensibly set around DC and trying to figure out if anyone involved has ever been there

Obviously the real move is to ask how the Baileys voted
Q: It's election day in NYC. Did you vote for Mamdani or Cuomo?

Schumer: "Look, I voted, and I look forward to working with the next mayor to help NYC."

With WICKED season approaching again, two facts about the musical:

1. "Oz Dust" to "because dust" is the best rhyme in the show.
2. "like a seed dropped by a skybird" is a very dumb line

One underrated aspect of Zohran is that he always wears a suit, always presents himself professionally while still doing fun and approachable retail politics. You don’t have to drape yourself yourself in hypebeast and post thirst traps, you can be fucking grown up respecting the office and be fun

You don’t get to name your kid X Æ A-12 and then say “or whatever his name is” about anyone else.
Elon Musk endorses Cuomo for mayor of New York and makes sure to add some racism in there: “…Mumdumi or whatever his name is.”

Holmes is mutable because as written he ‘emits neither heat nor light,’ as Doyle said. But that’s what Brett meant to do. It almost drove Doyle mad, & it broke Brett’s fragile mental & physical health. He said he had to show Holmes the man escaping through cracks in marble, & that’s what he did.
His Sherlock is 'my' Sherlock, it hit at the right age. That the character is mutable is to the credit of what, after all, was mostly a diversion of a character Conan Doyle dreamed up, but Brett delivered it just so, just right. Still wish he could have done all the stories, as was planned.
Jeremy Brett lived near Clapham Common & often sat on this bench. A nice tribute this morning for his 93rd birthday. A good actor who made up his mind to do the impossible, & did it. Hastened his own death, but he knew his name would be in lights forever, & I think he was fine with that.
