So many of the people being looked to by default on this—Dem pols and public partisans—are wasting it w/messages like "OF COURSE we all want to deport criminals" or "actually ICE does good things too!"

Barely a question of the basic nuttiness of using imm detention and removal to address any of it.
Would be a *REALLY* good time for funders to invest in building new, honest, fact-based, progressive narratives about immigration. Public opinion on the issue is potentially more malleable than any other moment in generations.

Yep. Though we also want Orange County to end its contract with ICE for the detention center that already exists, in Goshen.

In 2007 NY State passed a law banning privately run jails + prisons. But it left a loophole allowing private companies to contract with ICE to detain immigrant New Yorkers.
Howard COunty MD shows the way

Folks, not only is Hochul refusing to tax the rich, ignoring state climate law, failing to house the homeless in winter, and giving away state Medicaid $ to private equity; she's also helping the hospitals strike-break. Start saying the words "primary" and "Delgado," as in @delgadoforny.bsky.social.
In midtown, striking nurses are marching on Kathy Hochul’s office, calling out an emergency order she signed allowing traveling nurses to work in NY during the strike.

They say that move has prolonged the strike and is a handout to the hospital system.

As the Trump administration detains large numbers of kids, advocates worry ‘it’s only a matter of time before we see a child die.’

I keep expecting big media orgs to cover the fact that ICE has just STOPPED REPORTING DETAINEE DEATHS, but for some reason none of them have been writing about this. There are at least 8 death reports that ICE is legally required to furnish that they have ignored. More are coming.

In case you didn't know: Governor Hochul still allows local agencies throughout New York state to collaborate with ICE.

If that bothers you, the best and perhaps only way to make her change is to support @delgadoforny.bsky.social in the primary.
Bovino’s out, but ICE is still out here. We have to keep our guard up. New York for All would ban cooperation with ICE by local law enforcement. Period. Full stop. As Lieutenant Governor, I’m all for it, and as Governor, I’d make it happen ASAP.
