Delighted that my latest book 'Anaerobic Wastewater Treatment' has been published by World Scientific. It explores the exciting new range of anaerobic processes that are transforming WWTPs into resource recovery centres. doi.org/10.1142/q0507

I have really enjoyed reading this super new collection of poems from Victoria Melkovska. I really recommend it. I found it heartwarming and personal. A great new talent in Irish poetry. www.dedaluspress.com/authors/melk...

Humiliating senior military leaders in public is not a good idea.
Hegseth: "It all starts with physical fitness and appearance. If the secretary of war can do regular hard PT, so can every member of our joint force. Frankly, it's tiring to look out at combat formations and see fat troops. Likewise, it's completely unacceptable to see fat generals and admirals."

EU fire data was updated this morning. Here's the total area burnt across the bloc this year so far. A record for this time of year. forest-fire.emergency.copernicus.eu/apps/effis.s...

Great to see the exciting new electrochemical oxidation technologies for #PFAS destruction being rolled out to enable new drinking water limits to be met. New systems for PFAS destruction in #biosolids also being tested with hydrothermal alkaline and plasma-based systems on the table. #wastewater

#nicetry The artist who added a TV aerial in the new stamp from An Post depicting Daniel O’Connell in Dublin in 1844 apparently "included some sort of visual signal to link to the very modern global range and impact of O’Connell". www.rte.ie/news/ireland...
No AI on Daniel O'Connell stamp with TV aerial - An Post
An Post has said AI software was not used to generate the artwork on a stamp, which appears to show a television aerial on a building behind the nationalist leader Daniel O'Connell.

#GreenRoofs are increasingly common in urban areas but given the current combination of heat and water shortages are they always safe? They also require significant structural support. Good for biodiversity not as good as painting a roof white for #emissions and cooling buildings at night

A first for me. We have #swallows in all our outbuildings which is a bit of a problem as they are so messy...hence the cars are covered as they nest above them. This one has been perched on the car aerial for the past month and spends hours watching other swallows in action #birds #conservation

Watch the seismic waves from today's magnitude 7.3 Alaska earthquake ripple across seismic stations in North America.

Each year I have to cut down the hogweed at the bottom of my percolation area where I have a small willow stand. It's a lovely plant but so invasive producing massive seed heads. Creating a range of habitats requires a lot of management #gardening #conservation #nature

With the closure of banks, An Post has become the major lifeline for rural communities in #Ireland and must be fully supported by the government without further cutbacks in services. They are the most reliable and sustainable delivery service, providing vital community door to door support. #anpost

Absolutely @minibubbly.bsky.social‬. Wastewater surveillance offers us unprecedented opportunities to improve community health and control disease outbreaks, focussing action where needed and allowing more precise predictive and risk management. #wastewater #measles #pathogens

3 charts below:

1. Antibiotic-resistant "Superbug" cases in Ireland.

2. Covid wastewater levels in Ireland.

3. The charts overlaid & roughly synced for the same time period.

The pattern appears to show a connection between the peaks of Covid and peaks of superbug infections.

Influenza A and B were reliably detected in wastewater, closely aligning with clinical trends📈. Novel methods to define flu seasons using wastewater data show promise for complementary community-level disease surveillance👩‍🔬. #PublicHealth #WastewaterSurveillance #Luxembourg

This is very disconcerting when at last we can check the health of the population with a real chance of minimising disease outbreaks which is good for health and the economy. Also the other data we can get, including level of drug use etc., is invaluable in prioritising help at community level
First confirmation I’ve seen for a potential reason of why we are seeing so many wastewater facilities not reporting data.

It is possible that like in San Diego, that the DOGE cuts are impacting funding and the ability of those facilities to do their important work.
Very thankful to @sandiegouniontribune.com for covering the termination of our wastewater surveillance in San Diego.

If we don't want to lose sight of infectious diseases in our community, we need new funding - please reach out: searchcovid.info

Claire is quite right. It is far more sensible to prioritize the control methane emissions over CO2 emissions. #climateaction

One planet, one ocean, one atmosphere. We need to do the very best we can in the #wastewater industry to minimise what we discharge, especially when it comes to antibiotic resistant bacteria. So come on guys, let's make our effluents the very best we can.

Great example of low cost (passive) acid mine drainage treatment. The potential of #AMD is huge. Such small scale systems make a big difference and could be run by local communities with sensible funding. #wastewater #Circulareconomy
