NJ students in grades 6-12 will now learn about “the history of organized labor, notable strikes throughout history, unionization drives, and the collective bargaining process and existing legal protections in the workplace.”

This is genuinely so important, and so good to see. Jersey strong, baby!!
Proud to sign legislation today ensuring students understand the history of the labor movement and safeguarding the freedom of employees to make their own choices at work without coercion.

These bills reinforce our commitment to honoring the role of organized labor. www.nj.gov/governor/new...

A fun thing to remember on Labour Day is that Mark Carney eliminated the Cabinet role Minister of Labour, a position that had existed for more than a century under governments of all stripes, and Canada is currently without a labour minister for the first time since 1909.

Was government spending out of control? Or was it that the tax code does not allow the government to recoup the necessary resources from corporations and the super wealhty to do the peoples work? Can some one ask Mark ‘wreaking ball’ Carney? Ahh! He is one of the super wealthy. (People got played.)

So you’re telling me the Wizard of Oz presented itself as a towering force of overwhelming technology, only to be unmasked as just some guy, off-screen?
So apparently, it may turn out that The Wizard of Oz at the Las Vegas Sphere wasn’t entirely made in AI and Google threw the VFX crew under the bus by claiming it was all done by artificial intelligence.

If true, then fucking yikes.

"The number of temporary foreign workers applying for open work permits to escape abusive employers has jumped more than 800% year over year in Ontario, a surge advocates say highlights a growing crisis of abuse as immigration cuts and economic uncertainty deepen migrant workers’ vulnerability."

When I left the Washington Post in 2023, my colleagues and I were worried AI would hoover up our work and enable "zombies" to churn out stories based on our reporting and writing styles.

Today WaPo announced a partnership with OpenAI. And here it is: Zombie Gillian Brockell. I DID NOT WRITE THIS.

The strike is OVER and the Canadian media is STILL running stories about how the evil postal worker strike is hurting small businesses.
And of course there's no mention of WHY the workers were striking, because then the public might actually side with them.
'It keeps you up at night': Effects of postal strike linger into 2025, business owners say
The Canada Post strike ended last month, but the disruption continues to harm businesses at the start of the new year.

I know academics who use AI regularly, for work and play, and I'd really like them, and universities, to tell me how they contend with AI's bottomless appetites for power and water.

Is asking ChatGPT to interpret a Xmas song or making it write your syllabus worth this to you?
