This is getting a fair amount of scorn, and I’d say it deserves it. The hidden premise is that “corruption” requires the specific proof that the Supreme Court has decided (controversially) is required for certain very specific federal criminal statutes.

On the one hand, there is absolutely a civic duty to be informed. On the other hand, there is absolutely no standing for the NYT to demand anyone read or share stories. No one is obligated to share stories that function as contextual apologetics.
FYI, folks from Bluesky. Reporters at The NYT, among other news organizations, are now generating a giant wave of accountability stories about the new Trump era. Reading these stories, sharing them, is a form of accountability as well. It is a form of participatory democracy too. Substance matters.

1) A Trump opposition viewed exclusively in terms of Dems v GOP will fail.
2) There are a great numbers of leaders opposing Trump.
3) There's definitely reason to criticize Dems, but one reason Trump won is bc Dems focused on Dems, not Trump.

It is not uncommon at prison abolition meetings to hear from people who were victims of assault or lost loved ones to violence and found the remedies the criminal justice system offered them completely unsatisfying. Their stories are literally never covered elsewhere that I have seen.
fun historical fact: among the core political forces in the development of mass incarceration was the "Victims' Rights Movement". Its first major legislative national legislative victory was under President Reagan. The prison population doubled under his administration.
An innocent man who committed no crime but is the same race as the person who murdered your daughter should have to spend the rest of his life in a concentration camp is the argument?
