Anyway, any Brit wishing to escape all the international news today can settle down with BBC2 at 3.20pm, when "The Eagle Has Landed" is showing. It's a film about a group of soldiers attempting to kidnap another country's head of state.

I'm not kidding. It really is on today.

I've heard this "table at a public place" analogy before and it's really appropriate. People love to say "posting on a public site is an invitation for anyone to reply" and it really isn't! In the coffee shop if you want to join in to a conversation at the next table you at least say "excuse me"

This isn’t a radio - it’s a Dictograph telephone system from the 1920s–30s. Instead of dialling numbers, you pressed a switch to connect directly with departments. This one was probably used in the reception of a grain merchant.

When news outlets and politicians say Maduro claimed victory in a ‘disputed election,’ do they mean in the same way George W. Bush claimed victory in a disputed election?

I think it's especially interesting here on bluesky, where people wanted a better twitter. if you want that then you have to let go of some of those twitter instincts like "it's my right to comment on everything"

If kidnapping and exfiltrating other countries’ heads of state who may or may not have been legitimately elected but pose a problem in your opinion is legit now, someone has the opportunity to do something really funny…

We know the Odyssey is mythological, right?

Ever since the first look at Matt Damon as Odysseus was revealed, Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey has faced questions about its historical accuracy. Now, the debut of its trailer has reinvigorated that debate. https://t.co/ww4vRRxNfY

just gonna reshare this post (and thread) because I think it's really important that people understand how we all use social media differently. some simply want to chat, some want to joke, or offload, or muse. These are not all opportunities for debate
I am begging the users of this wesbite - of all the websites that work like this - to understand the basic fucking manners that are involved in talking to other people on here. If you hit Reply, the original poster is going to take that as a direct response to what they said, because it is.

yet again remembering senator chris murphy admitting right in public on twitter that we tried to coup venezuela in trump's first term and he was talking about this not to condemn it but to bemoan how trump bungled the job and embarrassed the US

To add to this, there is no evidence, but Trump that they actually kidnapped the President of Venezuela and his wife and flew them away.

But people and countries should take this as a serious question because it means Trump is willing to kidnap sovereign leaders of countries.
Trump admits the US is bombing Venezuela on Truth Social just now:

When the US bombed Iran, they also claimed they killed the leaders. This may be a tactic to sow confusion and embolden local fascists to take over the streets.
